2…2…2 entries in one!

Ah… commercials…

I have 2 giant brags on my Youngest, and I am lazy so I have not written about the first in time to have a separate entry for the second, so here goes…

Last June, Youngest came home from a conference for Lutheran sr high & adults where she and 2 of her friends were inspired to make a difference in our world. Specifically these three teens felt led to use their artistic talents to raise money to benefit underprivileged persons, especially in countries in areas such as Darfur which are severely in need.

This vague idea condensed into a spectacular event! The girls organized a silent auction of original art from local artists to benefit Doctors Without Borders. They titled their charity “Local Artists — Global Cause” and they obtained over 100 pieces of original art from local area artists to place in the silent auction. They procured donated refreshments (savory and liquid) to serve while potential buyers browsed, and at the end of the evening, they raised over $2300.00 clear for their intended charity! AMAZING!!!!!!!

Side note
: 2 out of 3 of these girls are seniors, and the other sr besides my daughter (she is my other daughter in many ways) remarked to me during the evening “I don’t know what I will do with myself after this is over!” I wryly suggested that perhaps she could work on college applications… she and my daughter are srs, and this event (when we were talking) was Nov 10 of their SENIOR YEAR! (more recent efforts being put into the spectacular charity event than in applications for next year!)

ok SECOND brag:

we spent thanksgiving weekend in 39°F rainy weather wrapped in blankets and umbrellas against the weather watching Youngest compete in a soccer tournament in the Dallas area (specifically Frisco in case any of you were there!) where college coaches were scouting for players. We were doing this even though Youngest SWEARS that she does NOT want to play soccer in college. However, see note above that Youngest has not done much toward college applications at this point, (working on the charity) and ALSO FirstBorn ended up at college based on a postcard invite from just such a tournament her sr year…

OK here is the BRAG: Youngest’s team played their hearts out, and came away with 2 ties and one loss. Not bad considering the competition. The coach sent us this email regarding the competition:

Scott [the tournament director], thanks for the write up. Our team was happy with the results of the tournament, although we feel we might have done better. When I saw your reference to the Premier Teams I thought I would do some research and see who these teams were.

0-0 against Dallas Texans 90 GR, they lost 3-2 in the Championship Final of 2007 National Cup, and are currently ranked 3rd in North Texas.
2-1 against Arizona Del Sol Xtreme 90, currently ranked 6th in the state of Arizona.
1-1 against Austin United Capitals, middle of the pack Western District Division One.

You have made my day by prompting me to do the research, I knew they were good but to play a team that played for the National Championship and shut them out makes me very proud of the girls.
