Bands of America (2)
Yesterday I finally received the DVD of MiddleSon’s high school band performing in the Bands of America Grand Nationals last November in Indianapolis.
Today I watched those moments over again, and had to note. I am so proud of all the hard work, the dedication, the heart (I know it sounds so corn-y) …
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never wrote about that weekend. Our high school only travels to Grand Nationals every other year (assuming they can qualify to do so), due to travel expenses from Texas. I attended (and wrote about my experience) two years ago when MS was a freshman. This year, knowing what the trip meant, I got Hubby to take off work and come with me. To top off the whole experience, our newest best friends that we met on our spectacular jazz cruise in January 2004 met us in Indianapolis (they live in Detroit), stayed in our hotel with us on the last night, and actually sat and watched the band finals with us (over 3 hours of viewing the top 12 bands in the nation plus the spectacular closing ceremony). REAL TROOPERS… NO KIDDING!!!!!
So many highlights of that weekend: sharing the effort of the band and what our son does with Hubby, the HONOR of having our new friends travel to be with us (they had no kids in the bands!), seeing our band perform their very best even though several technical difficulties seemed to mar their chances of a perfect score….
The memories of that great weekend last November brought tears to my eyes again this afternoon as I plugged in the DVD and re-watched the show.
