beach weekend

My annual girls’ beach weekend is here. We scheduled it very late (for us) this year, hoping to avoid the sometimes cold and rain-y weather of early April. Well.

Not only has it rained ALL SPRING here, but we have had tremendous thunderstorms and rain with flooding all day today and yesterday. The Dallas bunch arrived this afternoon, after driving through rain the whole way, and checked into the hotel near my home. This is so we can get going early tomorrow and actually catch some rays tomorrow afternoon.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since we will apparently see nothing but a total deluge this weekend, I got us all an appointment at a local spa this afternoon. After the hotel-included buffet dinner (while I did last minute shopping and straitening), we all met at a local spa where we all got henna tattoos (lasting 3-6 weeks) and then we gathered at my house where I had invited over my “beach invite” rejects — my local friends whom I can never seem to get to come to the beach with me. Hubby was as excited about this party as anyone, and he was a tremendous help in getting ready and in hosting the crowd after they came. My Youngest circulated as an added bonus, and MiddleSon actually passed through so that everyone could see him. I take all proud mama-moments, however brief.

The storms this week have been tremendous. A tornado or lightening (both explanations have credibility) hit an electric light pole (you know, the wood post kind) outside of Hubby’s office on Tuesday afternoon, splitting it in two (we are ALL glad the pole flew in a direction away from Hubby’s favorite car), and knocking Hubby’s entire office, including phone lines, into darkness/silence. Hubby (a pediatrician) finished his last 6 patients by flashlight and the light on his battery-charged otisscope. The next day he saw a few “emergency” diverted patients in his partner’s office 20 miles away, while waiting on electricity to re-appear. (We had slept with the office’s otisscopes re-charging all over our house all night.)

So as he gets back to normal at work, more and more storms wash over us, and supposedly tomorrow’s storms will be stronger than today’s.

We are driving to the beach tomorrow — scheduled to arrive by noon! We are all saying “WHO CARES? WE WILL ENJOY OUR WEEKEND WHATEVER!!”

My friend brought some new friends this year, that I just met tonight. Now they are in the hotel, and I am supposed to be packing — ready to go in the morning.

I wanted my “local” friends to fall in love with my “heart” friends, so that NEXT year, they would plan to come with me to the beach. I have no idea if this party plan worked. It wasn’t bad, though.

I am in a GREAT mood (why wouldn’t I be?)…

Oh I remember hearing about your past beach weekends and I envious I was that you had such a close group of friends to enjoy that with. I hope the party did work out! So sorry about all of the rain. Ugh. Not fun weather, but I bet you’ll all figure out how to make some wonderful memories. Hugs,
