to sail to fiji, or to not sail to fiji?

I just got invited to sail to Fiji by a swiss filmmaker who is also interested in utilizing my services as a writer in putting together a documentary about the effects of the semi-recent coup in Fiji’s effects on that country’s environment (which are, apparently, over-fishing of the waters, disregard for the reefs, and rapid deforestation). Fiji is holding elections in about a year, so he’s hoping to get it out before then and add some information to the madness of voting for a new leader.

Um, sounds pretty good. Definitely something I am going to consider quite seriously. Sounds like a pretty good Christmas present to myself. I guess it takes anywhere from 8 – 11 days to sail from here to Fiji. I could live on a sailboat! In the tropics! And the company seems good, albeit a bit paranoid and ridden with conspiracy theories. Robin would love them. He was always quite a bit more taken with the conspiracies than I was.

Ohhh lordy! Life is grand.

the only thing that keeps me from jumping up and doing this immediately is the fact that i just randomly met these two dudes on the beach and we talked for about 30 minutes before the invite was extended. they don’t seem sketchy at all, really friendly and open and mostly wonderful, despite, like i said, the rampant paranoia about the government and all that. but yeah. i just want to make sure i’m not jumping into a creepy situation and keeping myself safe and all that. i have the chance to spend some more time with them both before i commit, so hooray!
