We had a good day
Today started with me at work, namely to show material to this designer and his boyfriend for one of the construction companies we work with. I was shocked to see them show up twenty minutes after I arrived usually it is quite the opposite, most designers are late and not a fun bunch. The project manager seemed all worried about the meeting, meanwhile it was just another run of the mill designer, high strung and in need of someone to just talk to them like a human being. I always talk straight when it comes to this stuff, it makes things so straightforward and without complication.
Driving home I catch Nina on the phone and she is enroute to the gym. I am wanting to go but am struck by this ugly headache radiating from the side of my head. Yikes.
I caught good sleep from 10:30-12:30pm. It had been some times (years) since I napped on a saturday.
Afterwards we were having some lunch; leftovers from yesterday’s festivities for my m.i.l.’s birthday. My son watches me as I consume hero sandwich consisting of grilled chicken, roasted pepper, fresh basil and mozzarella. He edges closer, casting away any loyalty to the electric piano toy noise palace and stands up rather defiantly on the other side of the coffee table. He says nothing, staring at first before he meanders in cute baby fashion, innocent eyes stare wider than ever as his lips smack and make a hollow sound like when you pop a snapple top off the bottle.
Over and over.
Then with one tiny finger he points at my hero and all I can think off is that scene from Nell where she wants the popcorn.
"Want!"
Afterwards we are off into the beautiful juicey sunshine. It is the best feeling in the world. We took Joe into Bellport Village and down by the park on the water and sat him in the swings. At first he was timid with the motion but with the distraction of the many children he was soon into it and laughing.
No, I mean out of control squeeling laughter. The mother with her daughter in the swing next to us seemed perplexed at this but between the three of us we just zoned everyone else out and focused on the little man.
Then to the grass. He wasn’t exactly sure of this green stuff coming out of the ground, swatting at it apprehensively now and again and just not moving as he looked at it. Quiet too, a big change from a minute ago with the laughter.
Homeward bound and a failed attempt at sleep led Joe to entertainment with the mylar balloon from the party tethered to his walker.
My son really made my day today.
Aw that’s awesome. I’m glad.

You guys got the weather that I had on Friday. Just beautiful. Now, cold again, but at least we’ve had a little taste of what is soon to arrive! 🙂 You and your son have a special bond that you will both cherish for the rest of your lives…
