And now time for some BAD NEWS

Well, we were driving to lunch when my phone told me I had an email.

I casually checked it.

It was from the publisher.

It basically said that my story wasn’t what they were looking for.

He said he "generally enjoyed it" and that I could shave off 500 to 750 words or whatever.

The main point is that I have no time to even take his advice or write a new story.

I think that’s what made me the most upset.

I had this little twinge of hope that they were taking so long because they were accepting, but they weren’t.

Oh well.

I sorta want to just go under my blankets and cry for like half an hour and be over it. I might just have to do that.

*sigh*

Alright, one dumb publisher didnt like your story. Screw em. Keep on and eventually you WILL find the right publisher. THEN that dude will be all sad and butt-hurt.

It’s not great news but I think it’s great that they liked your story. Shows that you have some promise!

That sucks, sorry.

July 11, 2010

I think it’s awesome that you talked to a publisher, I don’t know many people who ever get any further than a rejection letter! It’s just one more step down the right path. But I am sorry you’re bummed.

July 11, 2010

Sorry hun. Hugs.

July 11, 2010

I’m sorry 🙁

July 11, 2010

Dont give up.

((HUGS))

That sucks. If this is an annual publication, try again next year! Are there any other publishers taking short stories right now?

HI I am also sorry to hear about this. But rejection is part of any worthwhile endeavor. I know you won’t let this keep you down. Checkout [secreteve]. She’s a writer who also gets kicked in the teeth by publishers. Recently a publisher wanted her to trim like 20,000 words off a 108,000 word submission!

Don’t give up… it takes time.

July 11, 2010

*hugs* don’t give up, that was just the beginning but now u know u do have th courage to put ur stuff out there and try to get published! 🙂

July 12, 2010

*hug* The others are right. You’re too good of a writer to give up. It’s very very rare for anyone to get accepted on their first shot, but his reply is actually encouraging. You can do it!

HUGS all the best authors struggle to get published, i have a friens, who is an awesome writer and he gave up on publishers and created his own publishing company, lol Just keep at it sweetie 🙂

July 12, 2010

i’m so, so sorry. they’re idiots for not accepting it.

July 12, 2010

Focus on the ‘GENERALLY ENJOYED IT’ thats from someone who reads 500 stories a day, he can’t enjoy them all. Use the constructive critisism to power you on to the next one!!

July 12, 2010

That sucks! 🙁 It’s super lame that they didn’t give you enough time to cut it down or anything like that :/

I am so proud that you submitted it! I do think that they made a mistake [and I’m not saying that because I’m your friend]. You are extremely talented and I know it’s only a matter of time before you have something published. So, this wasn’t it! BIG DEAL. I STILL LOVE YOU.

July 12, 2010

Awww, I’m sorry. That’s considerate that they wrote you back to let you know. I think getting published requires like 500 rejection letters before that one acceptance letter – I’m pretty sure that’s standard protocol.

July 12, 2010

It was your first try. Don’t get discouraged. And at least you know that they read the story. That’s a start. He also generally enjoyed it. Even better. I have faith in ya. You’ll get it. Just keep trying. You have a ton of creativity and someone will pick up on it.

xx

Not every publisher is after the same thing. Keep trying.

=( There’s always a next time though, don’t give up hope! Someone will buy it, and it’ll blow up and be huge. There will be movies and crazy fanatics, and you’ll be a millionaire!
