I finished The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky on Friday. It took me a while because I also bought a book on programming for work. Overall I enjoyed The Idiot, but it left me looking for more. I guess I’m just not that intimate with Russian culture. I took a year of Russian history in high school and loved it. I used to come home and talk my mom’s ear off about it till it was way past her bedtime and I’d just be getting warmed up. Boy she loves telling people about that. It was annoying at the time, but she looks back fondly on how gently she had to get me to shut up and go to bed. I’ll be damned if I could remember much Russian history now. I miss my memory. I’m going to start a tuna regimen and see if that helps. Not just for long-term memory but to make sure my brain isn’t starving. I love tuna.
Anyway, I’m used to the Russian names now. I’ll probably start on some Tolstoy or Pushkin next, but now I’m taking a short break to read The Last Days of Socrates which is a few of Plato’s works. Actually I’m reading an older version that was printed in England because it was $1.95.
That’s all for now unless you want to hear about the exciting stuff I’m learning to do with Java, XML and web services at work. Yeah, I thought so. I do actually have more interesting stuff to write about, and I’ve started other entries. I just just don’t have time to finish anything. No matter how much I try to narrow my activities down, I always have A.D.D.
