Updates

Well, I don’t think I’ll be Phi Theta Kappa material after this semester, but oh well. I don’t know why I ever cared. Well, yes I do. It was convenient when I was getting high grades for doing very little, and I felt I had to prove something to my boss. Things are different now. Last week my boss quietly informed me that my work over the past several months hasn’t gone unnoticed. I think he wanted to get me that salary adjustment, but he did manage to get me a bit of a bonus. I was supposed to get it with my last check, but the direct deposit got screwed up so I still haven’t gotten yet. It’s still good news and I’m hopeful for what’s to come.

Calculus has been a little challenging with that professor, but without worrying so much about grades I’m not so stressed. I’m working with my English professor to survive that course too. Thanks to everyone for your support. I think I’m going to end up with B’s in both classes, but that’s okay. I don’t fit in with Phi Theta Kappa anyway. I think my professor is blowing a lot of smoke to keep me from quitting, but he seems to like my last posting. I’m not sure how much different it was from my other postings, but whatever works. I wrote it a little more like my journal postings, but I didn’t really feel like I was saying much.

Greetings!

As I indicated on the course webpages, I am providing students with a grade report and constructive criticism at this point in the semester, so here are my thoughts:

Very well done! All of the work you have posted has been very strong, and your most recent work where you are letting things flow a bit more (and you are having a little more fun) shows great promise. =:)

You have responded with great insight and thoughtfulness to almost everything we’ve read, and you have articulated your thoughts and emotions about our readings very skillfully. Your “go with the flow” posting for drama was particularly enjoyable to read because we got to hear your ideas without also feeling you struggle against yourself as a writer. (I hope that makes sense.) So to my mind it was much more effective overall as a piece of writing. =:) So we may have found an answer!

In terms of constructive criticism, let’s try to get all the assignments completed. You missed a few assignments here and there, no doubt because you were agonizing over the writing. You can go back and make those up if you have the time. As we move forward, let’s try to make an effort to get everything done. =:)

Other than that, great job!

Thank you for working so hard and putting such wonderful energy into your work for this course.

Here are your grades for this section of the course:

Journal work: B+

Follow-ups: B-

All the best,

–Pat

Sounds like a pretty good grade. Glad you did so well. Writing can’t be THAT painful if you’re doing B+ work.
