What I Want To Be..

I’ve been thinking about work lately. “Of course,” right? More specifically, I decided that I might be happier if I had a less demanding job, one that doesn’t require anything of me outside of business hours. For instance, I think a job as a librarian would be cool. The books aren’t going anywhere, they won’t complain if I put them off until tomorrow or if I put them on the wrong shelf.

But the most important aspect of that job is that it’s highly unlikely that I’d come home stressed or need to worry about keeping up with cutting edge technology. Computers could be a hobby again, I could have more convenient access to all the books I could ever want, and maybe even work closer to home.

I’ve thought about this before, back when I was looking for alternatives to a career in computers. The biggest problem I saw was the low demand for new librarians and low salary. My aunt was a librarian for a long time and I never heard her complain much. She’s rather quiet, but she got free movie tickets a lot and the worst I heard happen to her was her car being stolen because the library she worked at wasn’t in the best part of town.

The best solution of jow woes is to aim higher, not lower. Don’t settle for a life of unfullfilled promise!
