– Blizzard of 2011! –
02/02/2011
Well since the 10 oclock news on the tv tonight in the Chicago area has devoted a lot of time to the Blizzard of 2011! I might as well stick in my paddle and muddy the waters a little.
The Weather Weenies had been predicting that we would be getting a lot of snow and high winds.
They did say that it wouldnt be quite as bad as the storm of 67.
In late January of 1967 the Chicago Area got dumped on.
I dont remember what the Official reported snowfall was but every place where I stuck a yard stick into the snow it was 27 inches.
We didnt have much of the way of wind during that snowfall in 1967. The snow just fell and stayed where it fell.
Last night we had snow and high winds. Some places reported winds in excess of 50 mph.
There were a couple of spots in the drive where we only had an inch or so but the majority of the driveway had between two and three feet of snow.
The Wife-Unit finally figured out why I insisted that the snow blower was parked on the porch/deck outside the kitchen door and why I had the snow shovels reachable from the doorway.
I was able to push the screen/storm door open enough to squeeze out and I had to shovel snow almost 22 inches deep to reach the snow blower. The I had to drag the damn thing close to the door to plug in the extension cord so I could use the electric starter.
I cleared the walk from the deck to the drive and about half the drive and then took a break.
About mid afternoon Middle and Youngest Son showed up and we finished the drive, cleaned off the cars.
Would you care to take a guess where Oldest Son is?
OK
Times up!
The Big Island of our Fiftieth State!
He knows when to get out of town.
So here are a few photos taken today.
All I can say is Thank God for the snow blower!
The MIL has decided that she has to wait up for Someone To Come Home
She doesnt know who but she is waiting for them.
Fortunately she is sitting in her chair instead of one of the new chairs.
Senile Dementia is so much fun NOT!
The Wife-Unit decided that we needed some new furniture in the living room.
New sofa, two side chairs and two end tables.
The Old Stuff is now in the Club House.
Wife-Unit wants old entertainment center cut down to retain storage cabinet in base for games and toys used by MILs great grandson.
My thought is give games and toys to our niece/MILs grand daughter and let her worry about storage.
I’ve been thinking much the same, about th toy box that has sat in my house since first grand daughter was born – she’s past 30 now.

The storm hit here on Tuesday and I not even took a measurement of how much. We had sleet for the majority I believe and then snow. Work has been shut down for 2 days and today it is back to “normal operating hours”. I’m too old and too close to retirement to freeze to death if I have trouble getting to work as the temps are below 0 and the wind chill makes it worse. I thought it over for about 15minutes and then made a “command” decision. No way!! Besides who would I call if I had problems? Ghost busters? lol Take care and stay warm and safe. In a week or two all this stuff will turn into mud and that will be much better…right?

That’s a good bit of snow you got there! And I would thank the Lord for snowblowers too! I’d had to think how long that would take to shovel away. Having done it in other locations at other times, I DO know how much it would hurt my back!

It’s not like I needed reminding why I hate winter or living in the frozen northland.

Wow! I look at all of that pretty snow and I think snow ice cream! We had a measly 6 inches and I thought that I was going to freeze to death. It is supposed to snow again tomorrow. What is going on? It is not supposed to snow in Texas! 🙂
Warning Comment
That there is a serious amount of snow, even if it wasn’t as much as you got in 67! We got 1 1/2 inches and our world fell apart here in Texas.
