yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn

Well, it’s a very unusually boring day at work. L is still out, although she did plan to come in today. Her mom’s funeral was yesterday and she called this morning saying she really thought she needed to stay home and get some rest. Totally understandable. It’s quiet – lots of transfer students milling about outside as it’s orientation. And later on I have to go over to the library and help with registering them. So far every time I’ve done this it’s been insanely boring, because we pre-register ours and get them in all the classes we can. By the time they arrive for orientation, there’s nothing to do but say "sorry, the classes are full, just keep checking back". I have yet to figure out why we do this. But, whatever! We sit at computers so I can at least read the NY Times.

Aggravation Receptionist was gone all morning to a last minute dentist appointment. Anyone who has been reading this for the last year knows that there is ALWAYS something wrong with Aggravation Receptionist. I don’t think there has been a solid week since I’ve been here that she doesn’t have something wrong. And usually it’s something mysterious and inexplicable and bizarre. So last Friday she had all four of her wisdom teeth taken out.  I of course figured that on Monday she would be moaning and dragging around and telling us nonstop how terrrrrrrrrrrible she feels. Oddly, she did not. She said her mouth felt weird and was very uncomfortable, but didn’t hurt. So, shocking as it was, basically no complaints.

Until yesterday. Yesterday her mouth started hurting. And got worse and worse and worse. So it was back to her usual state of moping around and telling us all how terrrrrrrrible she feels. Well, telling me since I’m about the only one here now. And of course I feel sorry for her, I really do. It just amazes me how she NEVER RECOVERS FROM ANYTHING. No matter what goes wrong with her, and something is ALWAYS going wrong with her, it takes her about two months to recover. So honestly, I’d already been dreading the Wisdom Teeth Removal and was kind of astonished that she wasn’t complaining Monday.

Anyhow, her dentist let her come in this morning, and looked in her mouth, and sure enough it’s infected. On the top, where, according to him, NOBODY EVER gets an infection. If teeth are going to get infected, it will be the bottom. Unless, of course, you are Aggravation Receptionist!!!!

So she’s got more drugs. And after being gone for a couple of hours for the appointment, she’s gone again for lunch. I just assumed she was using her lunch for the appointment. I can’t imagine she’s got any sick time she can take. So that’s why I’m all alone right now. Fine with me.

In answer to the questions about why the hell do I have to wait till two to go to lunch, and why can’t I just make her trade with me — I’m not her boss. Which is good and bad. And we stagger lunches, and my ex-boss went at 2. So I took her slot. There are three of us not counting her, so one goes at 12, one goes at 1 (at the same time AR does), and I go at 2. Or I could go at 11. I could also make someone switch with me but I really don’t care – I usually just go walking. The only time it’s a problem is when it’s just me and her and she’s late getting back. Otherwise I’d go even if she was late, because ordinarily there are two other people here.

And I always bring lunch and eat when I’m hungry. So I don’t starve.

Wow – what a boring entry! I thought I had more fascinating things to ramble on and on and on about, but obviously not. And I can’t do my work because I’m sitting at L’s desk because Aggravation Receptionist is at lunch and I can’t hear the phone or the door from my office. I believe that was my whole point in the big long AR story – I wasn’t expecting her to go to lunch, and I’ve already spent two hours out here while she was at her doctor’s appointment. Well, fine – I’ll just play. At the moment we are not terribly busy. And as soon as New Guy gets here I’m taking some days off.

Tomorrow will be a very exciting day – we’re getting our new stove!!!! Lowes is supposed to deliver it tomorrow, and my father is coming up to put it in. And I did actually take a picture of the old one when I went to order the new one, and asked how much they’d charge to install it. He said it involves cutting stuff out and rewiring so if we knew someone to do it, he’d recommend that – they apparently charge a lot. So Daddy is doing is. And he can, I have no doubts about that – I just know it will take him FOREVER and be hard work. But Baker B will be there and can take direction from him and hopefully do the hard stuff. Daddy does know what he’s doing – he knew it had to be rewired, because they plug those old ones in differently. He knew we had to buy a "pigtail". Whatever that is. Anyhow, I’ll be glad when that’s over. I hate having to arrange all this stuff, although it’s been surprisingly painless. So far. My favorite stove was not horribly expensive, but was enough that we get a rebate on delivery (it was $1 over the limit), it’s pretty, it’s self-cleaning, the eyes aren’t all lopsided and half-burnt-out, and now I can use the oven! Or will be able to. When it’s in. They deliver on Saturdays (and Sundays) so we didn’t have to pull the old one out and arrange to be there during the week which would be impossible for me this week, and then have no stove to cook on and another one in the livingroom  for however many days it was between when they came and Saturday. So hopefully it will continue to be a painless installation. And I will go oven-crazy for awhile. Just as it’s as hot as it ever gets here, of course.

And now I have to get ready to go be bored to death at Transfer Orientation. Happy Friday!

Aggravation Receptionist suggestion: Have her implanted with a GPS chip! Presumably your new stove has an oven, so I suggest you test it by baking me some peanut butter or chocolate chip cookies!

Self cleaning ovens rock! My mom updated her kitchen and didn’t put a self cleaning oven in. I about beaned her when I found out.

Quiche! That’s what I’d make. How exciting it will all be to get the new stove in. Very festive and Birthday month like me thinks. I never have enough time to read the Times. Have you set up your My Times yet? I am always mesmerised by the Flickr Photo Scroll.

I’m grieving the loss of your avocado stove. Truly.

I guess if you can eat when you want, it would be fine to go at two o’clock. I still would find it too long to take a break.

whew. what time do you start work in the morning? 2 pm is ok if you get to eat at any time, i am sure.
