ENOUGH with the drama

I’m not too sure I’m going to live through this day, so just in case the drama, moaning, tears and generalized whining does me in, this can serve as my Final Words.

I was actually kind of dreading today because I was afraid I’d  end up working alone all day. Oh, foolish me! Answering phones, signing forms, doing reviews, etc etc all alone would have been better than this. At least nobody would be whining, crying, moaning, or yelling on the phone to creditors. D is out today because she’s got an abscessed tooth and is having it pulled today. Aggravation Receptionist still has pleurisy, and came in yesterday moaning and weeping and filling us all in on how horrible she felt until she finally left for her doctor’s appointment and didn’t come back. She called later and let the Dean’s assistant know that the doctor told her to not come back to work until Monday. Which meant it would me me and Drama Queen today, which mean there was a real good chance it would just be me since Drama Queen was out the past two days for some vague and ill-defined stomach thing she and/or her kid had (it also varied considerably regarding who was sick with what). So I figured there was an excellent chance that she’d be out too. I was a little nervous.

And I was quite shocked to see Drama Queen’s car here when I arrived, as she is many things, but "early" isn’t one of them. "On time" isn’t one of them either. I thought for a few minutes that she was trying to seem all reliable and dependable since she knew D was out and AR too. Then I quickly realized that she was here early so that she could be on the phone at the stroke of 8 in order to start calling her creditors and not have to use her cellphone.

Shortly afterwards, here comes Aggravation Receptionist. I said, "I thought the doctor told you to stay home till Monday!!??!!?? Are you feeling better?"

"Oh, no," she says. "I feel terrrrrrrrrible!!! I’m no better at ALL!!! But I figured I could come here and do nothing as well as I can stay home and do nothing!"

Oh, you do not know how badly I wanted to shriek with laughter.

Anyhow. So she’s here doing nothing, which is of course her usual occupation. Surfing the net, dropping by to tell me how horrible she feels, etc. And Drama Queen has done absolutely nothing either but rant and rave to us about her creditors and how the illegal payday loan company has debited her bank account twice and the car place her brother’s kid’s baby-mama got a car from with Drama Queen as a cosigner sent her bounced check through again after she’d called and had them debit her account for that payment after the check bounced so she’s ended up paying it twice.

So it’s May 2, we get paid once a month, and Drama Queen is already overdrawn. Which honestly, I was totally expecting.

Anyhow. When she wasn’t ranting and raving to us, she’s ranting and raving to her creditors. She believes the illegal payday company had no right to debit her account, and she may be right as they ARE illegal in this state, although they’re doing business out of Malta. And she was also ranting to the car loan place, which of course is one of those seedy companies that preys off low-income people with no credit and gives them loans at like 36 percent interest assuming they’ll soon be able to repossess the car. And of course they won’t give her back the overpayment.

And then when she was done ranting she burst into tears and cried for half an hour because it’s May 2 and she’s already in the hole.

And I feel sorry for her. I really do. She’s a single mother and gets no child support because her baby’s daddy has seven other kids. I know how hard it is to get by when you’re married and have NO kids. But, BUT, she has bought 95% of this on herself. She eats out every single meal. She admits she never ever cooks. She goes up to the student union every day and spends like $6 on lunch. She brings in fast food breakfasts every morning. She eats fast food every night. Okay, I know it’s kind of cheap but it’s not THAT cheap. She also spent a fortune on a bunch of new furniture from one of those RentARoom places. AND just got a huge new high definition, wide-screen TV from them. She got this new car with the brother’s-baby-mama, and of course she’s ended up making most of the payments on it although it’s the other girl’s car. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. She just has no clue about how to budget, and if she wants something she buys it and then tries to figure out how to get out of paying for it.

So I don’t have a lot of patience with her, frankly. OH, and although I don’t know how much she makes, I know it’s a decent salary. She’s the same pay grade I was at the College of Ed, and since I was at the bottom of the pay range the entire time there due to our inability to get raises no matter what we did, I know she can’t be making much less than I was even though she’s only been on campus for a year. And I know one person could get by on that, even with a kid, although it would take considerable budgeting and not buying everything you want. She gets government help with her day care. D REALLY has no patience as she raised two kids alone, and pinched every penny till it screamed.

ANYWAY. I really did not mean to rant on and on and on. I’m just a little frustrated. I also have an interview Monday for D’s job, which I do pretty much have but they have to go through the formalities. So I’m nervous about that and also about how to even handle things like Drama Queen being absent all the time. D doesn’t know how either – she’s never supervised people till this last year.

AND …. we didn’t get to see Bill. Waaaaahhh!!! We got in line way too late, and couldn’t get in. He drew a huge crowd – I’ve heard 3000 people.

Well, that’s enough ranting. Back to work. We’re going to Baker B’s mom’s house tonight and to my parents tomorrow, so no OD all weekend. Another waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!

I’ll leave with some pictures of the Bill Crowds:

This is where we were. The line probably stretched a forth of a mile ahead, and then there was another line in the opposite direction that was just as long.

It was in our old, ugly, totally run down and due to be demolished gym. Oh, and despite the pretty skies, it was FREEZING.

Lines going in both directions! There were Ron Paul and Obama sign carriers hanging around too.

How could anyone be so stupid as to co-sign a loan?Especially your brother’s kid’s baby mama? Jeeeez.

May 2, 2008

Oh I am sorry you missed Bill! And I hope you are on your way out the door now and that you have a wondrous weekend full of other people’s cats and picture taking.

The interview is going to go very very well, very. However, if you go out this weekend and buy yourself a new professional blouse/top, some nice dress pants and the perfect necklace for the top and of course matching earrings, you’ll feel much less edgy. I firmly believe Noko’s Dr. Bob will make a similiar recommendation, although perhaps add a blazer.

Surely everything will be on sale at Kohl’s.

RYN: Thanks. Interesting job. If you get to be the boss, maybe you can clean house…

I have had my weekly fill of drama. We practically never eat out. Eating out is SUPER expensive. I’d be stressed out working with someone like that because money issues get to me.

ryn – it’s funny that you used the word “confidence” because I initially used it in my note but replaced it before saving. You never seem to lack confidence to me so it’s hard to imagine you having to bolster yourself. Anyway, have fun dressing up for an important but already conquered event on Monday. Today I wore a necklace/earring set I bought from Kohl’s earlier in the week with a $10 gift card earned from previous purchases. Several people including the usually taciturn Mr. Turnip complemented me on it. I have to remind myself that accessorizing is important. MJ and J are especially good at it so I try to take notes when around them. Even if I don’t take time, other people notice. I tend to down play this but it’s important. Especially for a management bound person such as yourself. 🙂

you sure have some strange people to work with. and don’t you have a policy and procedure manual? have you checked it out? you need to know what the perimeters are for sick abuse.

your best bet is getting a hold of that policy and procedure manual before your interview cause i am willing to bet you my cat that they are going to ask you how to handle this situation.

It sounds like the coworker could use the budget class I went too. Things have been better since I took it. I still made bad decisions money wise just not as often.

May 4, 2008

I wore mis-matched shoes to work one day. My excuse was that D and baby d were asleep, preventing me from turning on the light while getting dressed. My supervisor chuckled all day.
