complete and total randomness

Can I do a Friday Night Entry without resorting to a survey? We’ll see. I’ve been flitting around the internet tonight like a crazed butterfly with severe ADD and no medication, so we’ll also see how much sense I make. Not much would be my bet.

I really need to be watching House right now. I’ve had the first Season 2 disc from Netflix for weeks, and keep not watching it. I got sidetracked by Dexter, and although I like House a lot, I loved Dexter. Now I’ve got to wait for the next season of Dexter to appear on DVD. I see we could watch it with Showtime on Demand, but we’re cheap. And poor. And not in that big a rush.

Does anybody watch The Wire? I keep reading all these rave reviews of it, and although Baker B hasn’t been too interested, today we both read rave reviews (him in USA Today, me in NY Times so I don’t think they were even the same rave review) and now he wants to see it too. So maybe that will keep us occupied until the next Dexter.

I also just found out that they use a Tom Waits song for the theme – Way Down In The Hole. Although they only use his version on the first season, and have other people doing it in subsequent seasons. Which seems really odd.

And speaking of odd and Tom Waits, in my flitting around tonight I discovered….all sorts of Tom Waits stuff on YouTube! And, ummmm, that does rate a great big DUH. Of course there’s Tom Waits stuff all over YouTube. Everything is all over YouTube. But I was especially thrilled to find what’s probably my favorite video of all time ever on there –

Best.Video.EVER. Loony home-video filming by Jim Jarmusch of Tom Waits dancing crazily and singing a Cole Porter song. And driving around. This was apparently just a practice video before they made the real one, which was for an AIDS benefit – Red Hot and Blue. A bunch of people did Cole Porter songs for it. So they were just playing around with this video, then Tom Waits had a conflict with filming the real one, and they ended up just using this. I know all this because the video and commentary is on the Down By Law DVD, which is a Jim Jarmusch movie. With Tom Waits.

I also managed to find another video I used to love, years and years ago, back when you used to actually see music videos on places like MTV. It’s kind of funny that I loved this video, because it’s….ummmm… rap. And we all know how I feel about rap. But… it’s a sweet video! And a very bizarre video. No guns, no mostly naked women, no fancy cars – well, one fancy car but it comes to a bad end. It’s mostly these two guys trying to stop the leaks in their weird old ruined house during a storm, while carrying around cats and dogs. The funniest thing was I couldn’t remember who did it – I thought it was Ludakris – Ludacris? – whatever – so I was looking up him– them?? And I thought the name of the video was Ms. Johnson or maybe Ms. Jones so I was adding that to Ludacris and then I remembered, OH! One of those guys was Andre 2000! So I look up Andre 2000 who turns out to be Andre 3000 and it’s Outkast and the song is Ms. Jackson.

The internets are a wonderful thing.

Oh, what the hell – I’ll post it too, just for proof that I actually know…and like … a rap song –

That’s pretty much what our house looked like during the ghastly storms we had a couple of days ago. We’ve GOT to get a new roof before ours does what theirs did. And it’s pouring again right now.

While I’m on this posting/linking spree, how about a post to Baker B’s new blog! He’s using it as a Second Life blog. He goes around Second Life taking photos, and then working them into his entries. Very odd. He has several avatars and the "Many in the Kitchen" post from March 6 is actually two of his avatars having a conversation. He had to be logged into two sessions of Second Life, and switch back and forth. And yes, one of them looks like Space Ghost. The really funny thing is that when one would talk, the other would kind of flop over – like the Dead Actors game in Whose Line. Where Colin would walk on stage just as all the other actors had dropped dead, and he’d have to carry on the show by physically moving them around. Although Baker B didn’t have to have someone moving his deadish avatars around. That’s why one keeps talking about the other one falling asleep. And TG and SS were other totally separate avatars who showed up as Baker B started this.

I started one also, and don’t know quite what I’m doing with it. I think mostly odd photography. Certainly nothing to take the place of OD, where I can just ramble on and on and on with totally no point and still get read, hopefully.

And look, no survey!

Oh, no, Outkast isn’t Ludacris. Since you’re in a rap sort of mood, may I suggest the following Youtube links? Here is a Missy Elliott song that features Ludacris: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqP9-_v2jhA Here is Ludacris’s only good song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGWDaDhPHcs And here is some Jay-Z: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxtn6-XQupM And some more Jay-Z:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbNPAC9ScQU And this is getting to be a very obnoxious note from a person who found this entry on “recent entries”, but would you like some Notorious B.I.G.? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOm8sNZKKuA How about some N.W.A? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A05uvpG3cLs Or seminal rappers Run-DMC? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C2b8XWJnfE There’s a lot of good rap music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFHUqrNUs2M

I’m also thinking about getting into the Wire, though in enthusing about it this week on Fresh Air Terri Gross gave away the fates of some of the main characters. Now after watching Tom Waits and Outkast I want to dance around the house! It is raining here too.

I actually loved that video as well! lol, it is “white appeal” I guess! hehehe. ryn, I got a new digital SLR back for my Pentax system. I have six bodies now – 4 are film and 2 are digital. I have 6 or 7 lenses as well. I am excited to do some work with them!

I love Outkast.

I should search Youtube for videos of my two favorite men. Matt Ashford and Scott Bakula.

Art can’t watch ‘House’ for more than one episode every couple of months. He finds him very annoying. We both LOVE ‘Dexter’. It is totally bizarre. We don’t pay any extra on television. Thus, we can enjoy the old series before we even know that they are old.
