draaaaaaaaaama queens

I don’t usually write entries in the middle of the day, but I’m making an exception. D, the current boss, is on vacation today. I’m left with Aggravation Receptionist and Captain Drama. Aggravation Receptionist and I usually take our lunch at the same time – we all stagger lunches so nobody is left here totally alone. As soon as AR announced she was going to lunch and walked out, I realized that, duhhhhh, if I go to lunch at my usual time too, Captain Drama will be here by herself. And although I know she doesn’t mind, it’s probably not a great idea since she’s all too prone to playing on the internet and yakking on the phone when everyone else IS here keeping an eye on her. (Oh, but I’m not playing on the internet right this very minute!!! I have done a lot of work already today, thank you very much.)

So even though I really don’t mind taking lunch at 2 instead of 1 and I didn’t have any plans other than to go for a walk because it is sunny out and not freezing cold, still I’m a little irked that Aggravation Receptionist didn’t even ask if I would be okay with waiting till 2. I’d have consulted with her and not just walked out. But, hey, she’s all self-absorbed and I already know that. Why am I even bothering with being annoyed?

Anyhow. So as soon as she leaves, here comes Captain Drama’s roommate. Who is also the mother of her brother’s child, who is currently living with Captain Drama’s parents because the roommate lost custody of the child  long ago and the brother doesn’t even have visiting privileges. And is currently in Seattle. Confusing enough? Well, there’s been much brouhaha lately because roommate went to court to get custody back yesterday. She assumed that since she thought she probably had a job at Kentucky Fried Chicken, and she’s living with Captain Drama rent free (against the landlord’s wishes so they’ll probably both end up evicted), and she’s got a new car (that Captain Drama cosigned for her and they got at a place that specializes in selling to people with no credit so the interest is twenty eight percent, which I don’t know how they plan to pay for since A) roommate doesn’t even actually technically have a job and B) Captain Drama is already on the phone with the electric company and her daycare because despite it being less than a week into March and our next check being three weeks away, she’s already broke and can’t pay the electric or the daycare, so I’m not sure exactly how they’re planning to make car payments)… despite all this, roommate believes the court will just hand her the kid back. Captain Drama figured she’d be lucky to get unsupervised visitation with him, but of course it was draaaama all day yesterday too, continuing into today as the grandparents want to do a mediation thing instead of going through court. They seem to be the only ones concerned with the poor kid, who has lived with them just about all his life – he’s two now. The roommate has been living in Seattle (separately from the brother/baby daddy, oddly enough) and just moved back here a few months ago. Before that she hadn’t seen her child in a year and a half.

Now it’s late in the day. Aggravation Receptionist called when she was supposed to be back from lunch already and said she was running late. Captain Drama leaves early on Thursdays to go to class, so it pleased me very much to realize that after taking off without checking schedules, AR was the one stuck by herself, since I went to lunch at 2 even though she wasn’t back and Captain Drama went to class before I got back. So there.

But I didn’t get to finish this because Captain Drama’s roommate left and Captain Drama had to come tell me all about how mean and awful her parents are because with the mediation agreements they are doing things like requesting roommate take a drug test once a week. That she knows about in advance. OoooOooo, evil! And they don’t want her having "visitors" while the kid is staying with her, because she has a lot of "visitors". And Captain Drama is mad because that means she also isn’t supposed to have "visitors" since they’re letting her be the supervisor in the still-supervised visitations. And she has a lot of "visitors" too. And they can’t take the kid out of the county.

But whatever. I’m having a tiring day. I kind of dread when D is gone for good and I’m Queen. Aggravation Receptionist is actually not my problem – she’s not directly supervised by D. Captain Drama is, though. The kind of funny thing is that the Dean’s assistant is keeping tabs on both of them. Both were, of course, late this morning and the ass’t asked me to come tell her when they got here so she could tell the dean. So I’m not sure how much it’s my problem- apparently D doesn’t have to do more than keep tabs on Captain Drama’s time since she’s constantly coming in late and leaving early and missing days completely. As is Aggravation Receptionist.

Okay, I need to get back to work now. I feel better having vented, although I’m sure everyone else wishes I’d stop whining already!

OooOoo, though, here’s an exciting thing! One of my photos from my Viaduct Hike got put on the local weather guy’s site as Photo of the Day yesterday! It was quite thrilling – it’s the first time I’d ever submitted one, and I didn’t think it was going through – you had to type in a scrambled-word thing to prove you weren’t a spammer, and every time I typed it in and hit enter, another one came up. I did that like ten times before getting mad and giving up. So I guess I submitted it ten times. But whatever! It’s this one: (Don’t look, Falling Dog!!!)

sometimes it’s good to vent!

Have you thought about abandonning your principles and writing a soap opera based on the tales you hear at work? I’d watch it.

I’m surprized Captain Drama is still only a Captain, drama like that and you’d think she’d make full bird colonel by now.

I think cousin e may be onto something. And, if you don’t want to write As the Uni Turns, well, just pitch it as an ultradramatic reality show! Or, better yet – set up web cams and charge subscription fees! Congrats on the pic recognition. It is a lovely shot.

How exciting about the picture. I need to start doing more of that.

Your skill with the camera is amazing. I’m not surprised it was used, it’s perfectly beautiful. Like you 🙂

You and I could both write about our workplace drama. I already have a title for mine, and of course the material. As soon as I’d have it published I’d be fired so it had better be a bestseller! Love the Viaduct shot even though I’m still a little jealous. We have not made it to your area in almost three years!

That poor baby! Here’s hoping that she never gets custody EVER! Parenting is a privelege not a right. Ugh!
