waaaaahhh!!!! complete with pictures –

Where did all those days off go?? Well, a large chunk of them were spent right here. On the couch. With the laptop. Thank you, DSL, for turning me into a …. what’s worse than a couch potato? A couch turnip, maybe? Something with very little mobility. Well, I’m sure that once I get used to the World of Instant Access To Everything My ADD Butterfly-Brain Lights Upon, I’ll be able to tear myself away for a few minutes. I did actually drive to Charlotte Saturday, on a very spur-of-the-moment trip to the Big City. That was fun – I went to the mall that’s all fancy smanchy now and has Nordstroms and Neiman Marcus. Walked around and didn’t spend too much money. So I’ve done a few non-computer-related things. I just can’t really think of what they actually were right now. And none of them involved the many projects I was going to tackle, like, oh, getting rid of the CrazyPerson Clutter that has taken over this house.

And tomorrow it’s back to work for me. I’m trying to be positive. Like, at least I’m not going back to The College of Hell Ed! I won’t have 18,430 licensure packets to prepare and mail while trying to put together the Opening Student Teacher Meeting and dealing with Insane Boss and Insane Supervisors. I’ll just be dealing with the Insane Computer System. That’s okay. My main complaint is that I’ll have to go to bed before three am and get up before 10. The horror….

Of course, we are currently experiencing a Winter Weather Event, and are supposed to get snow tonight. It’s already snowed much of the day, but hasn’t amounted to anything. Yet.  Ray the Not-A-Meteorologist says 3-5 inches for us, and up to a foot in the higher elevations. So we’ll either get nothing at all, or five feet. And tomorrow we HAVE to get into town, because… we are closing on the refinance!! At the very last possible moment, of course. If we don’t do it tomorrow we lose the rate. So naturally we could get five feet of snow tonight. Good thing we have the Outback now. I’m not afraid to drive in snow – I’m afraid of all the Florons in their gargantomobile SUVs sliding all over the place because they can’t drive in the best of conditions, let alone snow. And our town is CRAWLING with Florons in SUVs. Literally.

Well, since I am now able to load up pictures to Flickr from home!!!! why don’t I just post some. Last night we walked around Blowing Rock, which is all decked out for the holidays.

They always have fun windows in the shops –

But I don’t focus on the creepy and disturbing ones – oh, no, not at all!!!

Looks like someone’s hung poor Santa –

And this one obviously escaped from my MIL’s tree. And grew a body.

Nothing says Christmas like Court Jesters!

Riding toy airplanes.

Not actually a Christmas decoration – unfortunately this is a permanent… sculpture? Hanging?? Scariest Art Ever??? On the side of a new building. It certainly makes me want to come right on in!

And this is what happens when you let the five-year-old string up the Christmas lights:

This of course isn’t in Upscale Trendy Blowing Rock. It’s right on the main highway in Boone. Welcome to the mountains, ya’ll!

And finally, a not-creepy-at-all picture of the kittens, doing their favorite thing:

The court jester’s hands creep me out, but I looooove Blowing Rock! Thanks for posting the pics. The village shot and the snowman were my favorites. It’s funny you would mention “crazy person clutter”. I’ve been tackling it since December 26. Good grief. At least it’s mostly done now. I hated it though. Hated, hated, hated it.

I liked the pictures. I would love those decorations in my home….so would Ben…probably too much!

I love these pictures. I wish I had gone through Blowing Rock at a time when these decorations were up – or at least when stores were open! Must go back sometime. xxoo,

I wish you a very happy and healthy 2008 and may it be filled with many good things for you and your dear ones. Warm greetings,

18,340 licensure packets ain’t much really…if you say it quickly. Sorry! your picture do seem to gravitate towards the slightly creepy – except the last one. I enjoyed a Jim Jarmusch movie I think you mentioned previously… Broken Flowers. The combination of both JJ and Bill Murray’s gently paced off-centredness is quite beguilling.

i really love that last photo!!! so cute!!! take care,

i’m trying to wrap my mind around the disembodied hand being kissed by the lips of the disembodied head. is this a Christmas theme? and the other one..nothing says “shut up/don’t tell (what i have for little bobby for christmas)” better than a finger of a disembodied hand held up to the lips of a a disembodied head. i can’t stop screaming!!!!!! HA! seriously, great pictures, wild and crazy party animal!!

yes. this will be a good year for you.

January 2, 2008

As always, your photos are sublime! Happy New Year to you and Baker B.

Well, we have a Christmas whale here in Hooterville. It’s an outline of a whale in lights. The most godawful thing you’ve ever seen. I kind of like that disembodied head with the floating hand, but the decapitated sculptured heads is a bit too much even for me.

January 2, 2008

widdle babies. I want to give them 500 kisses each. The other pictures are weird and disturbing. 🙂 I’ll hope for a snow storm that kept you away from work.

Red Cat said it best. And the court jester has creepy hands too. Am glad you’re enjoying dsl. I’m totally hooked on cable. xxoo e

Edgar has such a wonder of a fluffy tail. The pictures are great, that head sculpture one is very creepy. The fact that anybody thought that was okay to put on a building is creepy. I heard people from Boone were emailing Performance Today saying that Fred Childs was mispronouncing the Appalachian in Copeland’s Appalachian Spring. I wonder if perhaps it might have been the folks with the messy lights?

ryn: i looked up “cuddle duds” on line. i had them 20 years ago when i lived in Va. i just didn’t remember what they were called. and they DID keep my arse warm. while it may not get cold like this again for a while it will be good to have them on hand. my mother is always cold. i should get her some too.

January 3, 2008

Nice pictures, and my favorite is the last one. 🙂

January 3, 2008

awww! Awesome pics. I never get enough of Christmas. But maybe that’s because I’m done shopping before the crowds and we only get our tree a few days before, so … yeah. I’m still humming Christmas carols and everybody else is sick of it all and moved on! Cute, cute little balls of fluff!!

January 3, 2008

I love these photos !!

January 6, 2008

I love love love that sculpture in a creepy kind of jeeze-that’s-very-real-looking-but-scary kind of way!
