that review thing all the cool kids are doing

I was going to write a meaningful, thoughtful, oh-so-deep entry for New Year’s Eve. Sadly my brain doesn’t currently seem to contain a scrap of meaningful, thoughtful, deepness lately. And we’re leaving in a few minutes for Blowing Rock to walk around town and look at the lights. Before it starts snowing. Then we’re going to watch Lost, in an effort to get caught up before the new season starts. Yes, as a matter of fact, we are party animals. (Oh, look, we were watching Lost last year too!)

SO, I’ll just do the fun year in review thing everyone is doing. I think you were supposed to just do the first sentence. I did the first paragraph. Whatever. Happy and safe New Year to you all!

January in which edna’s head spins right off her shoulders

This has truly been the day from the deepest darkest depths of Hell. Although you’d think Hell would be quite a bright place, what with that perpetual fire and all. And warm. And pretty cheerful, really, compared to where I am now. I recall a number of years ago, when I was at my previous job and Baker B and I went on a Red Dwarf watching spree. I realized that I found the idea of being three million light years away from Earth, deep in space, with a senile computer, a cleanliness-obsessed mechanoid, a human-cat, and a testy hologram VERY appealing. Because I wouldn’t be here! Now we’ve been watching Lost and I’m thinking the same thing. Hey, that whole stranded-on-a-tropical-island thing sounds just peachy to me! I can deal with the invisible monsters and the polar bears and the wild boars and those creepy kidnapper people and the button you have to keep pushing or the world ends. No problem! Because I wouldn’t be here!

February        our lovely bipolar weather

Forget global warming. Our weather is in serious need of some stabilizing medication. Yesterday we were supposed to have a snowstorm – up to six inches – then it was going to turn to freezing rain and there would be a layer of ice over the snow. The snow was supposed to start in the early morning, the ice around 11. So when I got up and it was snowing, I just went right back to bed. Because we’d all agreed that if it was icy, we were SO not coming in.

March          and the terrible news drought continues

That was, ummmmm, supposed to be my title for the last entry. Hence the "I’ve been listening to Firesign Theatre!" remark. Which I’m sure made no sense whatsoever, and everyone is like, "Well, okay then! Good for you! {WhatEVER!!!}"  I have no idea why it vanished. I used quotation marks, since it IS a quote. Maybe that made it vanish. Who knows! Obviously, the news drought continues still.

April         our fifteen minutes of spring

Before the snow starts up again. Ray The Not-A-Meteorologist says, and I quote, "We have one more day of warm temperatures. Enjoy, because one of the biggest weather turnarounds you’ve ever seen is about to happen." Oh, good! We’re getting a cold front coming through from Ohio, with colder air "invading". That sounds about right. "Much below normal temperatures {yes, he IS that grammatically challenged} during Thursday-Monday will translate into significant problems due to the potential for plant-killing freezes." Well, I’m glad I’ve resisted buying any plants other than pansies. Which I’m planting in pots and can drag into the house. Stupid April. It sounds like we’re not alone, though.

May    just another day at the stark raving madhouse

And by "another day" I mean another week, but it’s been so grueling that I can’t remember further back than today. Which  was the perfect grueling cap to a grueling week. Oh, and it’s not over yet, despite it being Friday!  I have to work graduation. Which is Sunday. Starting at the outlandish hour of 7:00. In the morning. Which is generally when I’m slapping at the alarm to shut it up on a workday.

June   away, away!!

We’re headed for Charleston bright and early tomorrow! Well, by "bright and early" I mean whenever we manage to get up, get it together, and get on the road. Usually that’s 10ish. Years ago Baker B would be all gung-ho about leaving at the crack of dawn and he’d make me get up at some insane non-time like four in the morning and we’d have to be on the road by SIX or he’d be all crazed and neurotic about how we were wasting time and we had to hurry and if we weren’t there by 11 in the morning, why even bother going at ALL… but finally he realized that although we could drag ourselves up before daybreak and get down there before 11, it takes a lot of the pleasure away from being there early when we are both exhausted and cranky. And then we’d be collapsing by, oh, eight at night. That’s no fun. And neither of us are even remotely morning people.

July  what day IS it??

I am so confused. I keep thinking it’s Friday since I’m off tomorrow. It takes me about five minutes to figure it out. You’d think I would just give up thinking about it.

August   planet not-crazy

I am typing from the lovely lovely new world that I now inhabit, with my huge open window letting in summery sounds (as well as passing cars with thumpy music sounds and students yakking on their cellphones sounds, but that’s okay) and my ceiling fan and my one little flourescent desk light instead of a whole ceiling of them, and BOY is this nice. It’s like a whole different universe. It’s quiet! It’s peaceful! There is a receptionist who answers all the phones and deals with everyone who walks in! It’s… it’s… amazing!!

September not quite the charleston i was expecting

What an odd trip – odd in a good way, not like the last Disaster Trip, but odd nevertheless. Not at all what I was expecting from my Labor Day Long Weekend trip. And here I am in our relatively new Panera, which has wireless, quite excited to find they also have ten gazillion outlets and they aren’t busy today. I was all set to load up my photos, because you REALLY need photos to go with this entry and I sure can’t do that at home with dial up. Trust me, you need visuals to appreciate this trip. But, and I can’t figure this out at ALL, my pictures aren’t showing up on Flickr. I’ve loaded them up and I just get Xs. I also get Xs for everyone else’s pictures, and when I switch browsers, I STILL get Xs. I am not sure what is going on, and if it’s me or Panera or Flickr, but whatever it is, it sadly means no pictures for this entry. Drat.

October  maybe it will make me cool!

I just ordered a pink RAZR.  A PINK one – and I am SO not a pink person. It also did occur to me that Baker B might be a tad hesitant to use my pink phone in public, so I really had no intention of going for pink — but I kept going back to it. Longingly. They had silver and pink. And they had a bunch of other phones too, which I was researching as if I were choosing a life partner instead of a cellphone that, based on my previous cellphone experience, will have to be replaced in a couple of years anyhow. Which is why I’m ordering a new phone when my old one still seems new – it won’t hold a charge, and for the price of a new battery – $39 – I can get a whole new phone. Gotta love our rampant consumerism! I LIKE my old phone. I didn’t WANT a new phone. But, why would I buy a battery for an already obsolete phone when I can get a whole new, and much cooler one, for the same price! I was quite surprised at the price, because I just changed my plan and got added to the thing where you get a new phone every two years, so I wasn’t up for a new one till 2009. But I can still upgrade for a price, and the price is pretty darned good.

November  edgar!!!!!

I’m sure this is no surprise either – we went and got Edgar after work yesterday. Baker B had gone by the pet store at lunch and nobody had adopted him yet, and even worse he had a new cagemate that he wasn’t getting along with. The pet store people said the new kitten was very wild and Edgar was really unhappy. Edgar licked Baker B’s fingers and meowed at him some more, and that was it. We went and got him.

December babble and movies

It’s just a teeny bit distracting here today. Although it’s Reading Day (a.k.a sleep all day/ play video games all day/ watch TV all day/ do anything but actual work all day) we’ve been quite busy with other things. Mainly panic and stress from people who are supposed to be graduating next weekend. Or their mommies.

I like “thumpy music sounds” that so perfectly decribes the phenom. When I read that first entry last year I hadn’t seen Red Dwarf! Now I know what you are talking about. And no wonder you didn’t want Baker B. to take your pink phone hiking the other day. Enjoy being Lost!

i so enjoy your entries! happy new year to you and yours!

December 31, 2007

Ha! I will be doing this tomorrow. I did my last picture today. And interesting year, you’ve had. Happy New Year!

I have no idea if I have an entry for every month. I remember reading these though. I think that is neat.

December 31, 2007

Since I’ve been so missing in action lately, this entry was a great way for me to catch up! Now to read back and find out more. I wish you a wonderful 2008 🙂 xxoo,

January 1, 2008

RYN: yep – cats are coming with us. Kinda sad because although Boyd never wanted pets, he’d developed a bond with Willow which I think did him good so it’s a shame that won’t be there any more. Maybe I could give him visiting rights in the agreement! Mind you if we’re in the Bridge of Don it’s likely Willow will wend his wily way (look at the illiteration on that) back to the house anyway! I’ve wondered too about the Aspergers thing for myself – I think we ALL have a touch of something – I’m convinced there is no normal – but it depends to what degree it interferes with life. That’s my take on it anyway.

January 1, 2008

Keep writing! I live for your entries. No, really. I do!

God what am I like – I still tear up at the thought of Edgar being with that new cat in that cage – I’m sooooooo glad you guys rescued him! And I prefer the paragraph thing – the sentence thing doesn’t really make much sense when you read them all – some of the ones I’ve read are not bad but mine just came out all disjointed so I prefer this.

January 1, 2008

I’m so worried about forgetting all the complicated sub-plots to LOST before we see the third series in February. I saw it for sale in TESCO at Christmas and was very tempted I must admit – but it was £30 or £40 or something ridiculous so I resisted!

Happy New Year!

January 2, 2008

My favorite part of your year was getting the kittens!
