babble and movies
It’s just a teeny bit distracting here today. Although it’s Reading Day (a.k.a sleep all day/ play video games all day/ watch TV all day/ do anything but actual work all day) we’ve been quite busy with other things. Mainly panic and stress from people who are supposed to be graduating next weekend. Or their mommies.
And we’ve been shorthanded all week. The perpetually-sick receptionist finally called in Monday and yesterday. Today she’s back with tales of how her entire family has had the Horrendous Nasty Horrible Stomach Virus From Hell and it’s reaaaaaaaaally contagious and she’s probably still contagious herself because she still doesn’t feel all that great, so gee, she really hopes we don’t all get it too!!
I’ve washed my hands 45,978 times today and I’m wearing several layers of antibacterial lotion topped with hand sanitizer. I’m thinking a necklace of garlic cloves and a giant cross to wave at her when she comes too close might not be a bad idea.
Our other office person rear-ended some guy yesterday while coming up the mountain (we aren’t sure why – that’s not where she lives) where they are widening the highway and it’s under constant construction. She didn’t see him stopped, slammed her brakes on, skidded and still hit his trailer hitch at about 15 mph. She called the highway patrol but when they were still not there after 45 minutes she called her dad and he said it’s okay to leave the scene of a fender-bender if it’s not over $300 damage. She drives an old clunker which got its grill bent, and she said there was no damage at all to this guy’s garganto monster truck. She took pictures of the unscathed hitch. Which was a very very very good thing.
Because later in the afternoon, she discovered that this guy is now claiming $80,000 personal damage and $150,000 damage to his truck.
This poor girl is a 26 year old single mother who has no help from her kid’s father (he’s currently in jail) and of course has no money at all. She also has incredibly poor judgment, despite being really smart – I won’t go into all the amazingly stupid things she does involving her lowlife friends and her even lower-life sponging brother, but just leave it at she’s VERY poor. And the real reason she was eager to leave the scene was that her inspection sticker has expired and she was afraid she’d get a ticket for it.
Never never never leave the scene. I guess this guy could have still tried to claim damage, but at least the police would have been there with both of them and there would be some sort of verification beyond a picture of a trailer hitch taken with a cell phone.
Anyhow, she’s not here today either. She did come in (she couldn’t call in because her pay-by-the-minute phone is out of minutes) and then went back home feeling like she has the Horrendous Stomach Virus too, although we’re all thinking it’s more likely stress.
So, we’re short handed. And I can’t concentrate because our third office person, my sort-of boss whose job I should get when she retires, is a chatterer when she gets stressed out herself. So she has not shut up for five minutes today. And she’s in an office down the hall so she keeps talking down the hall at me which I’m finding just a tad annoying. And let me just say that I REALLY like her. I am very fond of her, I have no complaints about her – I just wish she’d shut the hell up!!! Ten minutes, just ten minutes of quiet, that’s all I ask!!!!
Oh, well. How about this fun movie thing that I’ve seen several places but swiped directly from Clanky? I actually don’t really understand how it’s divided up, so I’m thinking you add some movies of your own. At the end. Yes, I’m totally making up rules. So if you want to play copy it and check the ones you’ve seen and then make up some rules of your own!!

OKAY!!!!! Again, I am pretty sure 14 year olds came up with most of these lists. Fourteen year old boys. And I’m adding my own so I’ll have at least a COUPLE of movies I’ve actually SEEN. Being the Woman Who Has In Reality Seen A Million Gazillion Movies.
And I see so many movies that I’m just putting down ten recent ones from my Netflix queue. Thanks VERY much.

HA!! Take that, kids!! And back to the instructions…..
Now add them up and……
put "I’ve seen ___ out of 239 249 movies" in the subject line and repost
Or not. Or whatever.
You are a crack up. I have seen lots of those movies. I should do this when I have time. I could scare myself with the junk that I’ve watched. I HATE it when people come in sick. My entire family could get sick. Ugh!
Warning Comment
That is so sad about the young woman in your office rearending that jerk. We all must stay well in spite of those who come to work sick. We must. ‘ I put Northfork in my Queue. 🙂
Warning Comment
I’d be afraid of doing this survey thing, it’d look like all I do is watch movies. I always found the most effective way of calling in sick, especially with tummy flue, is to go into detail about the consistency and qaulity of my stools, no one ever says, well, try and make it in.

My little Honda has a magnet in the rear bumper. It got rear ended less than a week ago – 3rd time in 2 years. When BD got rear ended (hit #2) there was trouble because of no police report. So for hit #3 I called 911 and was told if there is no bodily damage, pull to the side of the road, swap insurance information and go merrily along your way. The beauty of no fault insurance I suppose. Your poor co-worker. Why is it things like this seem to happen when things are already not going well?
Warning Comment
Fourteen year olds did come up with this list. As I’m going through all the movies, I’m thinking, “Hmmmm, this is a movie I might see if I were an angsty teen.” But I’m a stressed out psychologist in her 40s, so, no, haven’t seen many of them, either.

receptionest from hell will be gone by spring. leaving with a thermometer in her mouth i am sure. lol.

People are so skeevy. I always call the police first thing and I don’t care if anyone gets mad at me. I just do the dumb blond thing and blame it on my husband. “I had to call you because my husband would have been upset with me if I just left! How was I to know how much damage is done!” and in this day and age, you can’t get a fly washed off the grill for under $300 if there is insurance involved. I say, always call.
Warning Comment
ryn – actually I watched the Lavender Hill Mob while sick last week and loved it, but during the day when I was comepletely and happily home alone.
Warning Comment
ryn 2 – Really, this list is not the classics nor the cutting edge aratsy fartsy fare. So I’m surprised you’ve seen any. I always tell people I’m culturally handicapped – never watch tv or movies. Well, this certainly proved me wrong.
Warning Comment
OMG the guy in the truck should get what he deserves, what any awful opportunist deserves . . . (right know I can’t think of anything suitably horrid) Wishing you strong health mojo!
Warning Comment
Howl’s Moving Castle is an excellent book as well. I highly suggest reading it if you can find it. It’s by Diana Wynne Jones. I work in an office, and one of the biggest problems we have is people yelling from their cube to another. I’m on the phone for a lot of the day, and it makes it very hard for me to get my job done. RYN: I hate buying gifts for people I work with. Not becauseI don’t like them, but because most people I don’t know well enough to get them something they would like or want. I figure everyone likes cookies, everyone likes candy (especially homemade) so that’s what I’m doing this year. Plus, it will be a lot more cost effective. Hugs, John

I’ve seen a few more-thanks to having a teenager in the house who watches all of them! But I haven’t say I’ve enjoyed all of them. 🙂 EXCEPT “Pirates” We both love Johnny too, and the other guy isn’t too bad either. But Johnny is great in these.
