this, that, and kittens
This may be an exercise in futility, since our systems all keep crashing and right now the internet seems verging on a breakdown of its own. Yesterday we had a major major internal crash, on the first day of the already-delayed spring registration. Nobody could register, nobody could get on the new system, everyone’s email was down. The whole campus was sitting around burning money for a day while nobody could do their jobs. Word on the street is we’ve also lost email into the ether. Today we got an email from the head of the computer department basically blaming the vendor. Ummmmm, right. Duuuude, we all know the people in charge of the implementation of the system didn’t want to pay for training. That’s why we’ve ended up with these idiotic hit-or-miss "training" sessions led by people who have no clue what they’re doing. This whole thing has just been a disaster and we all predicted a train wreck on registration. But oh, no, it was the vendor’s fault.
"…we depend on vendor partners to support their high tech solutions and we press them to resolve issues in a timely fashion."
The computer guy did apologize for the inconvenience. And referred to yesterday’s meltdown as "catastrophic". (You think??!!??) But it was all the vendor’s fault!
Well, since it’s absolutely Grand Central Station in here this afternoon (quite unusual, but students are starting to panic about grad audits and the ones who got letters about what they’re lacking for graduation are starting to panic and there’s a crew of clompy-footed men installing air conditioning {yes, we’ll be needing that for sure- there are nasty rumors of snow this week} clomping in and out and overhead and leaving the door wide open and the phone is ringing off the hook and the receptionist keeps not answering it) I’m just going to post pictures of the Cutest Kittens on Earth:
This is their usual position. Except when they’re smacking each other around and tearing through the house. Cayce seems to be way more aggressive than Edgar. And I was shocked to discover that they weigh exactly the same, although Edgar looks twice as big as she does. Apparently little Edgar is all fluff.
Is there any such thing as a non-cute kitten?

Air conditioning installation in the snow! Perfect upgrade nightmares! Don’t they test, I wonder, how could they not test? Edgar has really long legs. He is going to be a handsome tall guy. The perfect counterpart for his sister. How is Stella holding up?

they are part siamese, or they look to be from the shape of their eyes. oh you are in for some interesting times!

i wish we could get a kitty for Murphie to play with (and for us to enjoy) but Sideler is so darn allergic to all things feline. He’d have to get shots so it’s a no go. Edgar & Cayce (perfect name combo by the way) are so adorable. Isn’t it great to come home from a day of dealing with monkeys to three kitties that love to entertain you?

At my workplace, we also have ” idiotic hit-or-miss “training” sessions led by people who have no clue what they’re doing”. It’s happily called “Train the Trainer”. You’ve inspired me to write about it. Happy happy joy joy – I will feel your pain next spring when our new system is online.

ryn – I’ve used your term “spawn of Satan software” on several people at work. They laugh, but not too hard or deep – the truth isn’t funny. Dennis just said it’s going down to freezing tonight. I’m ready for spring.
