what day IS it??
I am so confused. I keep thinking it’s Friday since I’m off tomorrow. It takes me about five minutes to figure it out. You’d think I would just give up thinking about it.
Well, on the happy news front, the House Fixer Guys are here at last. They arrived Monday, worked all day, worked all day today, and were planning to work tomorrow but apparently there was an issue with it being a holiday. I guess it would mean the company has to pay them overtime or time and a half if they worked. They’re all Mexican so the Fourth is probably no big deal to them. I’m torn between being sorry they are losing a day and being glad they won’t be here because, duuuude, they get here at like seven in the morning. I’m just getting up when I’ve got to go to work, and really didn’t want to get up at seven when I don’t have to work. So now I get to sleep in a bit.
Not too much, though, because my father called me at 10:00 tonight…. and they want to come up tomorrow!!! I’m honestly not quite sure why, but I’m thinking he wants to see the House Fixings. It’s kind of weird. They have not been up here in over two years – since before he had a heart attack, and that was two years ago in February. I’m not sure why. I think they just don’t like to drive this far anymore. Baker B’s mother hasn’t been up in longer than that. And I have to admit my first thought was, "OH NO!!!!!" Because our house, which isn’t neat and tidy at the best of times, is pretty much a disaster. Although a lot of the disaster is due to having to move everything out of the basement, so it’s even more of a clutter-fest than usual. At least we do have that excuse. And there is the whole, "But we’re OFF and now we don’t have to deal with the House Fixers and it was a FREE DAY!!!" thing.
Yes, a free day in the middle of the week with two vehicles we’re afraid to drive farther than we can walk home, so really we may as well have some company. And of course, being Queen of Guilt, now I’m hoping I sounded pleased and not horrified – I was mostly just kind of shocked, not expecting to find out at ten at night that I’m having visitors the next day. Visitors that NEVER visit, so that was pretty much the last thing I was expecting.
At least they gave us a little warning. Baker B’s parents used to just show up. I have very unpleasant memories of getting up in the morning and finding them on the porch. When I was in grad school during the day AND working nights, and Baker B was taking classes and working and BOY was it annoying to have them just appearing on the porch every few days. "We brought you some tomatoes! And curtains!"
And I did get down to Asheville this weekend – and got to see my little furry child!! Who is doing just fine, I’m happy to report. I went over to visit her Saturday and Sunday. She seemed delighted to see me, and hung out in the livingroom with us. Apparently my visiting her cheered her up – she’s been coming out of the bedroom and isn’t hiding in the closet now. Even more amazing, I hear that this morning she and both Kim’s cats were hanging out in the livingroom together. I’m sure knowing I still exist and haven’t just vanished makes her feel better. I guess she’ll be there till NEXT week now – I’m not sure how long this house thing is going to take but I kind of doubt it will be done by Friday. The engineer came over today to check it out and was impressed with the progress they’ve made, but they haven’t even started the inside drilling yet.
And although the Honda place called me today and said the part they had to order was here – the one they said wouldn’t be in till Thursday or Friday, so I was momentarily thrilled – they can’t schedule the repair till MONDAY. So I can’t go get her anyhow unless I rent a car yet again. The Colt’s gears are getting worse and worse, and the Free Outback is still in Potential Lawsuit Land over the not-new axles, so we’re pretty much stuck.
Well, I should probably try to go to bed so I will be up before my parents arrive on the doorstep tomorrow. The good thing is they won’t show up all that early.
Gosh, I hope your day “off” goes well whatever happens. 🙂

Can’t even imagine how crazy makin’ that house fixing stuff must be not to mention car troubles and uninvited guests. Whew. May the fourth be with you, oh wait, it is July, not May. Oh well. 😀

Hey, maybe the folks are showing up to clean your house and pay your bills! Yeah, right. Enjoy the visit.

Yeah. I’m having kind of the opposite problem at the moment. Monkey and Sprite are still moving stuff out of here to bring over to their apartment. She just keeps showing up. I told her after they are officially out she will have to call first. I told her I didn’t want someone coming in when I think we’re alone and be standing in the hallway nekid … I think she will remember to call first.*winks*

By the way, I don’t think I told you how much I like the sidebar of this design. Great colors, too.
