shut your eyes, you’ll burst into flames

Yes, still on that Twin Peaks kick. And I just wrote this big long entry and …lost it. How??? Who knows!!! I really don’t know what I did, and naturally this was the ONE time I didn’t have it copied over to Word. I ranted on about the Log Lady and how the first season DVD’s didn’t even have her bizarre intros, and although the second season does have them, you have to choose to play each episode with the intro- it’s not automatic. Blasphemy! And then I checked Amazon and it appears their Season One does have Log Lady Intros. Our video store must not have the remastered DVD, and Netflix doesn’t have it either. They don’t have Season One at all right now, another bafflement. Just Season Two, that just came out. I think Season One came out something like 7 years ago. And even weirder, the pilot episode isn’t on DVD at all.

"My log saw something that night!!"

And I don’t know why I’m ranting on about the Log Lady.

Insane Boss has arrived after being out all morning, and I’m being summoned every five seconds or so. There goes getting any more work done. Like I’ve gotten any done so far today. But…. I’m getting out!!!! We had interviews for J’s job yesterday. There were actually two very good candidates, much to my surprise. A third was much too young and inexperienced- she works on campus now but just answers phones and doesn’t seem to know much about databases – and the fourth was yet another baffle. She knows Insane Boss – I think she’s cleaned house for her – and her main experience seemed to be running restaurants. Which does of course take lots of skill but it’s not the same skill set as this job. I didn’t even list her as one of my picks to interview, because she didn’t fill out the application – she put her name and contact info then put a note saying hi to Insane Boss in the experience part. Apparently she didn’t realize the application didn’t come directly to Insane Boss, and it’s part of Human Resource’s database. The fact that she didn’t figure that out by going through Human Resources to create it was a big red flag to me. But whatever.

I just proved that I’m certifiably insane myself by…. calling Stella. On the phone. And leaving her a message. She’s (waaaaaahhhhhh!!!!) staying with Kim, in Kim’s spare room, and Kim’s answering machine is in there. So Stella can hear my voice, and she knows I didn’t just abandon her!!! Because she’s very sensitive!!! She’s staying with Kim because the Massive House Upheaval was due to start yesterday. Naturally they called at 7:30 yesterday morning and said they’re running behind, so now it looks like Wednesday. It seems to me they could have figured that out on, oh, FRIDAY. But whatever! If Baker B and I thought we had till tonight to excavate the horrible basement, we would have waited till tonight and not done it over the weekend. And it was AWFUL and took forever and I’m still tired and it was like moving. Except we don’t get to leave.

But my point was.. I miss Stella!!! And I’d been all worried about her and upset about having to LEAVE her – but it’s better than having steel beams driven through the basement wall right underneath the bed where she hides from strangers. She would NEVER get over it. I feared she’d never get over being taken to Asheville and left with Kim, abandoned by her mommy!!!! Then last night Kim called and said Stella had come out from under the chest of drawers where she’d wedged herself, and was rolling around on the floor being cute. So I think she’s probably okay. But STILL. I miss her!!! How on earth to parents of actual children ever send them off to camp? Or college???

Waaahhhhhh!!!!

On the car front, it’s still at the Honda place. I should call to see what’s going on, but I just don’t even want to hear it. On other car news, I mentioned to my father a few months ago that we were kind of looking around for an Outback. We could use an all-wheel drive, and the poor Colt really does seem to be headed for the Scrapheap Heaven. It sounds awful and is spewing smoke and you have to hold it in fourth gear or it pops out. We are afraid to drive it out of town and we are NOT spending any more money on it.  A flat tire would total it right now. We were kind of trying to hold out until it officially dies, but naturally my father, who seems to be able to come up with any car you need any time you need it, found that one of their neighbors has an Outback she wants to sell. And he wants to buy it for us. I have to admit I didn’t argue too much. It’s ten years old and she just wants $3000 for it, but she’s getting all sorts of work done to it and apparently it’s in very good condition. So I was all set to go get it — and Stella!! — this coming weekend, but now she’s discovered that the new axels she had put on a little while ago were in reality used axels, and now they’ve gone bad and she’s in a major tizzy and is going to sue the place that sold her used axels as new ones. So looks like a little delay on the Outback. Which is fine – I still can’t believe we’re getting a free, apparently good condition, car.

Okay, I must get back to work. I planned to post more Charleston pictures, but Flickr is being weird today and I don’t have time to mess around with. Maybe tomorrow.

free cars are nice!

Actual children going away to college are less cute than cats and way more expensive.

I admit, only to you of course, that I have left answering machine messages for my cats for the same reason. It doesn’t seem fair that you two should be separated when you clearly need each other! We have a bunch, maybe 15, middle school kids having a “city”camp in our building all week. It is funny, they just pop up at various times during the day doing various things… a scavenger hunt or making a video. There are only three boys. They are all sleeping upstairs and I discovered today that the whole staff was secretly wondering where they are showering. It is a mystery. Like your house propping up adventure. I hope it all gets going and goes smoothly tomorrow. You and Stella need to be reunited.

Damn, that’s a big cat!

still love you a big bunch, but no time to leave a real note. erm. i love stella too.

I’m glad you laughed and didn’t recommend a shrink. After my bender (I think it was 3 glasses), I felt so crappy the next day that I decided it’s the perfect time to go on a fast – no sugar, white flour or alcohol for a week or so. I’ve started this before and failed abysmally. But hopefully the change in routine will help me stick with it long enough to feel so great that I won’t think of downing ice cream or m&ms ever again. I blame my failure on poor GS, he can eat anything and never gain weight. Yes, my poor eating habits are surely his fault completely. Do you get hypoglycemic? MJ does.

Okay, this is the second time I’ve read this, and why I didn’t leave a note the first time, I do not know, as the note I had thought I left is now the note I’m going to leave, which is that I have called my dogs on many occasions and left them messages. I thought I was the only nut who did that. On another note entirely, my dad and his wife have now decided that since Boone is in the mountains, and they are trying to get away from cold weather and four seasons, they will be looking around Asheville for a house. Still in your stomping ground.

I hate being away from my children. Your cat looks so cute, it makes me want one all over again. We cannot afford one. Plus, it would worry me a ton in the winter. The free car would be great. I hope it works well.

She looks tentative but happy.

Ahhhhh. So there’s Stella! And that’s how you got a new car! Now I can go back and read in the correct order. Which points out to me how very odd this is for you-if you are seeing these notes-reading them backwards. Certainly by now, you’re expecting nothing less from me. I find making sense can be seriously boring at times. Plus it does seem to be a problem for me, so that’s handy.
