yawn
Yawn because I’m sleepy and yawn because I keep wanting to write something but have nothing to say. But I want to write something. But I have nothing to say. Booooring!!!!
As usual, I’m at work, which is where I do all my writing these days. I can’t seem to concentrate enough to do anything else. And I’m in the very rare situation right now of not being completely overwhelmed. I’ve got some stuff to do, of course, but nothing is all that urgent. How weird. That will come to a screeching halt next week, I’ll wager. And it really is pretty quiet, since it’s spring break and all the needy demanding little students are off at the beach. Or whatever. Actually our two student employees are off being industrious and admirable and just all-around good kids – one’s in the Dominican Republic working with Habitat for Humanity and the other is in Panama, doing something equally unselfish. I was so impressed, but not surprised. Theyr’e both just LIKE that.
We’ve had beautiful, beautiful weather – high sixties, even low 70s. Of course there are rumors of snow this weekend. But I’m focusing on the positive and enjoying this. I’ve walked every day. It’s cheered me up. Well, until today, when Baker B finally got someone to look at our house. We’re facing a major repair that’s going to cost major major money. The foundation is going to have to be stabilized. Two of the people he’s talked to have recommended a company that’s from out of town but does a lot of work here, so he’s calling them to get an estimate. THEN we’ll have to get the cracked wall fixed. Well, no avoiding it, I guess. Unless we sell the house and move. And we’d have a hard time selling a house with such a major flaw. That’s become obvious in the last few years.
On the positive side – I’m trying to be positive!! – we paid ridiculously little for this house. Seriously, it’s laughable how little we paid, compared to what houses sell for here. And we have a home equity line of credit that we can use for the huge repair bills. And then if we do want to sell it – and we may – we’ll get a lot more money for it. Maybe enough to actually afford another house here.
But… ackkkk. I hate money issues. They make me anxious. To put it mildly. I do give Baker B lots of points because he’s been handling all the phone calls and discussions and went home on a moment’s notice today to meet one of the estimate guys. He’s not freaking out at all, so I’m trying not to freak out either.
Wow, I really can’t think of anything else to say. I feel like all I use my diary for lately is to whine. Well, I’ll just post some pictures of my lovely springlike walks the last couple of days:
One of my favorite places – Flat Top, off the Parkway. Usually not too crowded, and it’s a big open meadow on top of a mountain so it’s a great place to go when it’s sunny. Especially after months of gloom and bad weather. Well, THIS isn’t Flat Top – it’s the trail up to Flat Top, looking back at the Parkway bridge.
HERE’S the big field! It doesn’t look all that bright and sunny, but it was something like 6:30 in the evening. It’s also not going all green yet, but soon. SOON.
Interesting tree. I sat on the big low limb there on the right for quite some time.
Sat, and played with my sepia settings.
AND, just because I got my hair cut and re-highlighted yesterday before going hiking, and was so happy about that, and a number of notes requested a picture of my not-home-grown dye job last time …
This of course is after hiking and is not the poofy perfect look it had BEFORE I went tromping up the mountain. But it’s a pretty good approximation of the color, which is close enough to my real color that I didn’t have to have that done again. Just the cool highlights.
And yes, I AM wearing my iPod. Way up on the mountain. Because, dudes, there are some MAJOR megaphone mouths up there.
OooOOO, time to go!
OOh, the pics are beautiful, and so are YOU!!! I really like your hairstyle! :)) Yikes about the home repair, but thankfully you have the home equity line of credit to pay for the major repairs!! We are still needing to put the new roof on, and then work on the septic system. I think I could plaster my house with all of your beautiful pictures….yours and Jasspirits. :))

I forgot to say I like your sunglasses. May I ask where you bought them?

Firstly, you had plenty to say! Not boring. And the haircut is VERY cute. Nice shots of the other stuff, too.

Love the hair – it is you. Also love the pictures, moving back to the mountains was an excellent life decision, Baker B & Edna. Do you have books or music on the ipod? Use iTunes? I’m still a cd person and need to move into the new millennium, before we’re into a new decade. Keep us posted on the house issues.

Great haircut! You are lucky you look wonderful in short hair! Along with that, and your weather, and your lack of snow…well, I’m fighting some serious feelings of envy here. Sigh. No,no, I’ll take a page from your notebook and BE POSITIVE! I will. Just give a minute here! Thank goodness for home equity credit!

the pics are beautiful, I love western carolina! ryn, lol, yup, the beach does call my name. my daughter (great lover of Asheville where she and fiance went to school – her UNCA, him Mars Hill) wants to get married barefoot on the beach, sand between her toes.

The sepia makes the one tree shot look like a reflection. Cool! Way cool, walking and taking pictures rock, major house repairs do not. Sorry about that. I have also had a few hours lateky at work where I have not been so busy I have trouble with my breathing and it is weird! Of course that only lasted a short while before the odd and unusual requests started again.

Lateky? My bad, I was watching the movie crew while typing my note.

and your hair is good, great cut and color.

Yay for Baker B handling the home repairs.

RYN – Any teenage boy can load stuff from a pc to ipod in half a nano second. Am not sure how legal it is, but CFS does it a lot. For that matter, your smart nieces as well as that handsome nephew may be of help. You could store some of your 1000 songs on your hard drive temporarily to make room for a book. Then rotate them out, you wont’ need a bigger iPod.

Everyone is home safe & sound thankfully. The main roads are fine, some side roads are trecherous per GS. Where did Baker B get the awesome graphic on his website? CFS brought his sister a pretty necklace made of small conch shells configured like a flower. Very sweet. He brought me a “Go Army” folding chair, which he got for climbing a hill. Our tax dollars at work.

Oh, very cool – CFS just showed me your Facebook site. Love the photo of you taking a photo – artistic and clever. And of course you & BD. He wouldn’t let me have the mouse, was afraid I’d start going through his friends, which of course I would. Any mother worth her salt is going to check out every friend, in depth. Sherlock Holmes wasn’t the first detective. It was Eve.

Well it’s a while since we’ve seen a pic so about time!! I really really like your hair – the colour the style the whole thing. Suits you madam! (that’s a Paul Whitehouse saying – one British comedian I can’t stand I have to say but it seemed fitting here).

I like your hair, it looks great! I wish I was in your warm climate. The Chinook should do its job, soon. As far as money issues go, I get FREAKED out every time.

Love your hair. That interesting tree is the best.
