I am having so much fun with my New Toy. Which I also discovered has a very functional calculator as well – I used it to calculate how much a shirt would be with a coupon, which was really nice since I have very poor math skills and can never do percentages in my head. Now if only I could get it to clean the house.

I’ve made one call on it.

It’s great to have instant photos, though – now I want a good digital camera. I knew this would happen.

SO, this afternoon I lounged on our deck. It was hot, sunny, and we are neighborless, hooray! The weekenders didn’t come up, and the neighbors on the other side took the Screaming Banshee Kids and went to Alabama. I bet that was a fun drive. I took advantage of the rare quiet.

Lounging:

Baker B not lounging, but cutting the grass. FINALLY. Our yard had become a jungle. Notice I’m not out there weeding the “garden”, either.

Stella lounging on my lounge chair:

Stella being cute (ignore the fact that we need to stain the deck again, after staining it last fall. It wouldn’t quit raining long enough for the deck to dry out, and when we finally did it it still wasn’t dry enough, so came right off.):

Stella keeping me company:

Baker B hoisting Stella:

What I saw looking up while lounging on the lounge chair (the sky was actually very blue):

Okay, so I mostly took pictures of Stella. She’s cute. I planned to do a “look what I’m doing right this minute, and how cool is it that I can just post pictures of what I’m doing right this minute!!” entry but by the time I wandered around reading other journals and uploaded the pictures to Image Shack (which takes SECONDS, but I kept getting distracted) it somehow managed to become nearly 9:30. I’m still on the deck, though, listening to Frank Zappa with Baker B. Joe’s Garage. I can take or leave Frank Zappa, but it’s still very pleasant.

Your deck looks better than mine, actually. Love the photos! My new digital cam just got here. Now, if I could only figure out how to use it . . . I’m glad there’s another person on this site who takes photos of her pets!

I can see that Stella also knows how to lounge quite well!

Woo hoo, a Tool convert!!!! Yes, they do also remind me very much of Radiohead, oddly enough. I am waiting impatiently for their new CD, which was supposed to be out last month, as was Radiohead’s. There isn’t any evidence — yet — that the tendency to abuse substances is inherited. It may be, but behavioral genetics is dicey at best. Every time someone claims to find the gene or genes for . . .

alcoholism, say, or schizophrenia, other, more robust studies come along to refute the earlier study. Some brains seem to be more vulnerable to substance abuse and dependence, but that may not be entirely physiological. In fact, there IS ample evidence that substance abuse is a learned behavior. There is also evidence that improper parenting can make brains vulnerable to substance abuse. I could

go on and on and on here, but suffice to say that drug dependence is what most people mean when they say “addiction.” I don’t even like to use that word, preferring, instead, to say “compulsive drug/alcohol use,” or “compulsive eating/gambling,” etc. The word addiction has been used in such a wrong way for such a long time that it no longer has any clinical meaning for me.

I like the next to the last one of Baker B and Stella best. I think you can write a novel that starts from that photo, it has that wonderful blurry snapshot feel. The new Brownie! The maids on Morrea had cell phones. They are wearing only pareos and flip flops and they come with clean towels laughing and taking care of me and talking on their phones.

Hee hee – you will now spend most of your waking hours taking photos – believe me!! I too love the “I can take a photo of this right NOW without the hassle of getting it developed” thing but I end up taking photos of EVERYTHING & doing nothing else!!

The quality of those phone pictures are better than I had previously believed they would be.

I love seeing photos of my Faves & their environment – the image I’d built up of you wasn’t quite there but it wasn’t far off funnily enough. Now I can picture you ‘in situ’ so to speak when you have a rant about work!

Great toy you got and the pictures look very okay! I love the colors of your cat’s dress! Have a nice weekend,

ryn: You are braver than me, I don’t know how much more of SFU I can handle. That last episode sounds like it was amazing, so maybe I’ll stick with it in small doses. My big embarrassment is that I have discovered the whole Highlander TV series is available on Netflix! I think this might be a multi-year project.

I have a yellow tabby who is very skilled at lounging. I just have a boring old phone, your pictures make me want a new toy!

I heart Stella.
