Anime du jour
I went old school tonight. I just finished Rhea Gall Force, the fourth “movie” in the series.
Imagine if you would, a world where war has pretty much destroyed civilization and the fight continues against the robotic minions of the former imperial powers of the Earth. Of course, since this is a Gall Force title, these minions were left over, reconstructed technology from the great interstellar war which spawned the human race…
The characters were familiar takes on the usual Kenichi Sonada model, in other words attractive women and gruff hard-looking men. With guns. In this case, BIG GUNS. The mecha were very well done, of course some of them reminded me of the things I used to draw when I was a teen, but hey, that just means I’m talented, ne?
The story was well done, a group of commandos covering the escape of civilians in a post-apocalyptic world is hard to go wrong with… It came to the natural conclusion, but left the ending wide open for more tales in the universe, as all of the Gall Force titles have so far. I like that, but I kinda wanted a real ending, like the one in Gall Force: Stardust Memory, wait that was Gundam, Stardust War was Gall Force (thanks Darren). Oh well… It was still good.
The music. Oh god, if there is one thing that excels in 80s anime it is the music. I especially loved the ending theme, very upbeat and bouncy. Very good things. I’ve tried to find more info on a cd release, but it was the 80s… so… I’m not holding my breath…
Overall, it was an hour well spent. And Sandy was a hottie. Mrow.
I really need an avatar to use specifically for my anime reviews. I’m taking submissions. 🙂 Mrow.
An avatar? Here? You sure? *grins*
