That Good Old Hockey Game…

So tonight is the Stanley Cup playoffs, and I’m ressurrecting some of my old Canadian spirit by caring who wins this year.

I used to be an avid fan back in the day of Guy LaFleur and the old Montreal crew….Larry Robinson was always one of my favourites, and he stayed the course for a LONG time.

GO HABS!

Unfortunately, the Canadiens are not the team they used to be, and did not make it too far this season. I got interested in the game again when my daughter and her lover boy were here this spring….Christian is an ardent Philly fan, and he and Tamara caught 2 games in the early playoffs. I was disappointed for him when they lost to Tampa Bay, but the highlight of my playoff watching season was Darcy Tucker of the Maple Leafs

What a true beauty this guy is…….all hockey, and more guts than a slaughter house. I’m ready to name him ‘Mr Canada’ after watching him play this year.

In any case, neither his team, nor the Philly’s ( who have some very respectable players too….Esch is one of the best goalies in the league) made it into the finals.

Oh well, so it goes.

I’ve been having fun tonight calling my father, and betting him on the game….he picked Calgary, so I took Tampa, even though I really could not care less who won this match ( I’ve had a hard time loving this game since they expanded the league…I mean…hockey out of Tampa Bay Florida? How natural is that? But if he hadn’t picked Calgary, I would’ve…..not because they’re favoured to win, but because they represent Canada, and hockey is OUR game)

Right now ‘my’ team (Tampa) is up one, so I’m having fun harassing my father via phone.

Hope you catch some of the game tonight….doesn’t matter, really, who wins….. so many people love this game, it’s something to watch.

But if Tampa gets the cup, I get $5 and bragging rights for a bit, so I have that extra incentive.

( Tamara, Christian, and a bunch of drunken Swedes stayed up  to watch the 6th game between 3 am and  6am in Rhodes …..what a wonderful world we live in. Watching hockey playoffs, in Greece!))

Minerva Jones…..wishing I was saying ‘GO HABS" again, lol

RYN: it will take a lot of convincing to get me to go back to the Molson Amphitheatre again.

Boo Hoo…Calgary lost by one goal after a grueling post-season slog. I’m beginning to think that when I cheer for a team it is the kiss of death. I used to be a big Philadelphi fan back in the 70s and 80s. I don’t watch a lot of hockey these days but I get into it again with the playoffs.
