I Get Lost In Your Eyes* (Woot! Edit)

Busy. Sore feet and achy back. On one hand I am insane to be working two jobs. On the other, it will probably be very good for me to do this for awhile. There’s a lot I want to write about (the second job, DBG Recording Studios) and I might later after I get some more stuff taken care of from my lists. But I really need to do stuff on my lists first or I’ll leave for Canada with only 14 favor bags and the clothes on my back and a messy living space to come home to.

To Do

  • Pack (see below list)
  • Make sure DRS work is all tidied before leaving
  • Charge batteries for camera
  • Secret Wedding Present Thing
  • Figure out what the Secret Wedding Present Thing will be
  • Clean Room This has been removed due to time constraints, not because it’s actually been done – heh.
    1. Find place for craft stuff (under bed?) – put it there
    2. Clean off desk
    3. Vacuum
    4. Wash linens

  • Clean Bathroom
    1. Scrub tub, counter, sink
    2. Put everything under the sink or in drawers where it all actually belongs
    3. Sweep
  • Clean (my part of the) fridge
  • Let Rachel know I’ll be gone?
  • Fill iPod with delicious audiobooks and music – Honor’s mix CD should definitely be included
  • Get small clips
  • Work more on Dev’s altered book

To Take/Pack

  • Passport
  • Camera, extra batteries, charger
  • Extra outfit to take to work on Tuesday to change into at one of my layovers so I am not wearing day and a half old clothes when Honor picks me up at the airport
  • Clothes
    • Wedding Outfit
    • Bathing suit
      • Try on bathing suits to see which one is least offensive
    • Socks and tennis shoes for hike
    • Sweatshirt, rain jacket, hoodie?
    • Outfit suitable for bachelorette shenanigans (and backup, if necessary)
    • Travel clothes for return on Sunday (possibly outfit I will wear Tuesday or Wednesday in the morning when I travel)
    • Underthings
    • Two casual outfits
    • Light blue jeans
    • Extra pair of pants and shirt, just in case
  • Brand new journal
  • Puzzle book
  • iPod
  • Dev’s altered book
  • Stationery for letters?
  • Addresses
  • Toiletries
    • Blow dryer
    • lotions (Aveeno from work!)
    • face stuff
    • Shampoo and Conditioner (I just bought a 2-in-1 which will save on space, and I didn’t even plan it that way – yay!)
    • Soap
    • bath pouf
    • Razor
    • Round brush
    • Small clips or other hair accessories?
    • Sunblock?
    • deodorant
    • Jewelry
    • Toothpaste
    • Toothbrush
  • Favor bags
  • Phone Charger (even though my phone won’t get service up there)

*It’s not Debbie Gibson, really. It’s one of Ryan’s songs, Things That I Don’t Say. You can view his MySpace and listen to it here.

Woot! Edit:

So Thursday night at work I checked out Ryan’s MySpace and then his blog as I am easily distracted by people’s internet lives. He had written this bit about he was feeling like he might give up on his music because he doesn’t have a large fan base and it’s discouraging to play at a coffee house to only three people, all of whom are related to you. I sent him a quick email on MySpace about how he’s really talented and shouldn’t give up and by the way, Kyle’s doing this video recording stuff for another friend of his to post the videos on YouTube to drum up a fan base for her. So I told him if he was interested in something like that that he could contact Kyle and start that. Kyle, Kyle (from work), Ryan (who is also from work, but the only Ryan I’m going to talk about in the near future so doesn’t really need to be distinguished that way) and I went to lunch on Friday and everything got set up and yada yada. It was a fun lunch, though somewhat awkward because Ryan and I haven’t really associated with each other much. Before Friday I hadn’t been in the same social situation with him for more than 2 minutes, despite the fact that we’ve been working together for 2 years. (Almost 2.5, wow.)

Anyway, Ryan agreed to come to the Denver Botanic Gardens for some recording that night while Kyle was working the graveyard shift. (I totally typed “graveyard ship.”) Kyle, Ryan and I met at the gardens and after setting up and kind of wandering around and hanging out for a little bit, we got to work. Or rather they got to work. I just pushed the recording button on the video camera and provided moral support and encouragement. And moved some tables and chairs.

Behold!

I am feeling woefully unprepared for this whole leaving the country bit. I have no idea why I didn’t plan to take Tuesday off from work. Except that at the time I requested the time off for the trip, I didn’t have a second job so I figured my weekends would be free and productive. Well, they’re productive, just not for me personally.

I stayed up late last night working on crafty things. I had a good idea for the Secret Wedding Present Thing, but didn’t want to do it and screw it up, so I did a practice project which will be used for something else entirely. So I worked on that last night, but still don’t have the actual SWPT done yet. That’s my big goal for tonight. I have to finish packing, too, but I can do that in the morning if needed. I was also working on a card for another friend that’s getting married on the 16th. The card was less intimidating so came together a little easier.

Speaking of this whole second job bit (this isn’t what I was wanting to discuss as mentioned earlier – I’ll have to do that some other day), I don’t know why I didn’t realize it would interfere with my social life, but it totally is. Maybe I didn’t think about it because normally I don’t have a social life. But my social card for August seems to be filling up. I really wanted to go to Amie’s wedding, which is on the 16th, but wasn’t sure because it’s at a time when I’d normally be scheduled to work. I told Amie I’d go if I could finagle it, but that I couldn’t guarantee I’d be there. Ryan also has a show on the 10th which is also scheduled for a time when I’d normally be working. Because I finally came out of the wood work to support him and his music I feel like I really should go. And I really want to go. I’ve been meaning to go to one of his shows for the past two years and just haven’t gotten off my lazy ass to do it. He said that if I only make it to one of his shows, the one on the 10th would be ideal because he’d like the guy who manages the bookings at that venue to know he’d draw a crowd. I told him I’d try, but couldn’t guarantee anything because of the second job. He sort of retracted because I think he may have felt like he was imposing, and said not to worry about it if I have other things going on.

I asked for the time off anyway so I have the 10th and the 16th off from work so I can go to the show and Amie and Brad’s wedding. It’s pretty awesome. I’ll actually get to sleep in, too! It’s only been like two weeks that I’ve been working both jobs, but it feels like it’s been forever. I’m insane for thinking I could do this without it affecting me too much. I just have to reset my mindset about it and manage my time more wisely, but it’s cool. I can handle it. =)

You did not just quote a Debbie Gibson song.

Speaking of DBG recording studios (or speaking of speaking of them), I was going to post one of the videos here tonight. Which one would you like? They will link to the YouTube channel so they can see them all, but I want one here. Requests?

I love your lists. Actually, list-making was something I got from you, oddly enough. Now I am all about the lists. ALL ABOUT THEM.

“face stuff” i s my favourite. Personally I keep mine in one of two places: 1) my bag, 2) http://www.facebook.com

My first thought was Debbie Gibson, too.

RYN: Oh the camera person did a FANTASTIC job! I better reward them somehow. 😉

July 28, 2008

Fortunately, my first thought was not Debbie Gibson because I don’t know her discography. heh.

Ryan rocks!!!!! I am totally bringing an army to his show. They better break out extra chairs!!

ooh he’s cute! but married (i think)…boooo.

His guitar work is really good! I hope he manages to keep up with it, especially if he really enjoys it. You’ll manage leaving the country just fine! I’m positive.

YouTube is working for me. I have a pile of regular viewers who check out my stuff, a number of whom keep asking for me to put a CD out. It does help with your fan base and it might help a bit.

ryn: As you will soon see, my parents don’t really have decor, per se. It’s more…umm…eclectic? I think they’d appreciate the frame, though. 🙂

Hey… I added you to my faves. 🙂
