Five years on
Strange but true: I do not seem to be able to effectively link to the entry I posted then. If you want, you can browse through entries, if you go to the beginning, then go to the next batch, it’s there. Just a simple thing, meant to indicate that we were all alive and unharmed. Then again …
Nigel may just be having the day home from school. He isn’t feeling at all well, my sweet angel. Memories come flooding back in the midst of other stuff in life. Soon I will rouse Princess Ophelia … how much of how she is now is formed by the fact of how that day and the following days were to live through for a 10-year-old girl child? … and walk over to the high school that is physically closest to where we live.
How much of who we are today, our choices and our outlook and our behaviors, was shaped by the cataclysm that visited our city and our world five years ago?
There is so much healing needed in this world, from Nigel and Ophelia and their family and neighbors and city to our state and country and the world in which our little lives are placed. A world of pain and trauma and sorrow, of love and laughter and warmth too.
I had coffee with my conscience last night. Everyone was exhausted. Facts crash to Earth, and Hurricane Florence looms larger than ever. I need to pray and simplify and get down to the bare bones truth of me in order to proceed.
God bless us, every one.

Warm hugs to you as you get down to the bare bones of you. Which you’ve gone a long way to doing already. We always find something to tussle with. Darn if it’s not one thing it’s another..smiles.. I’m thinking most especially of you each day as you approach the vacation. Seekers always find. Much love my sweet friend.

It’s a day I don’t think anyone sane enough could/would ever forget. Trouble is, we all know it can and will happen again, the only questions is, where and when and that’s what makes remembering today so sad. Sending you love and warm hugs as you all remember this day only too well. Bren.

It makes me thankful that we have been very lucky not to have actually lived through war in our land. Perhaps we ought to do more blessing counting and less cringing in fear. I hope your children can come to peace with the horror. I pray all children who have lived through the horrors of war and terror can build a better more peaceful world.
