The weather outside is frightful
That’s where the Christmas songs end. It’s wind advisories, rain and grayness today. I believe we are having the NYC version of a tropical storm, which is somewhat toned down from the thing our neighbors to the south have been dealing with, but eww anyway. I am thinking that today is a fine one for staying at home. That typed, I just know that when anything is needed outside, it will be me sent out to fetch it. Because in this household, that’s the way it is. I also know that there is bound to be something or other needed from Out There. I wonder when (and if) we will have mail delivered today. I know all about the U.S. Postal Service’s motto statement, but often enough that just doesn’t seem to extend all the way to this little corner of the country. Our long-time regular mail dude has been working for many years, which means that if he sneezes he can take time off. The other mail carriers working in our local post office seem to find delivering mail to our complex … well, confusing. They come around in the later part of the afternoon. Tons of things wind up on the ledge in front of our bank of mail slots, having been delivered incorrectly. And if the wind is blowing strong, well, I don’t know what will happen then.
Not that I am anxiously awaiting any mail. I got a lovely card yesterday from a new friend. It has lots of very pretty images, and two bits of text. On the front, it has “a declaration of independence”; inside it says “LOSE THE BAD. KEEP THE GOOD.” Otherwise, it has pictures of beautiful things and stickers. It is heartwarming and filled with nature. It’s neat that my friend does things like this, as it’s something I have been thinking of doing myself, making my own greeting cards instead of buying boxes of them. She is inspiring me to start doing just that. She is an expert envelope decorator too; that was similarly decked out. Most nifty.
Okay, so I’m no swan, which means I am ungraceful and don’t keep things simple, although of course I do remind myself to keep things as simple as I can manage, being a recovering drunk and all. I won’t attack anyone, though, and am not in general nasty tempered, so not being a swan is okay with me. I shall admire them from a respectful distance; they surely are exquisite creatures. My friend Jojo once told me that all the swans in the United Kingdom are the property of the queen there. Well! I am guessing that is a good thing for the swans, as they fall under her protection. Like her corgis. Or something.
I whittered on the theme of the sign in the previous entry last night. I am not going to post it here now. I might at some other time. I expect that things are headed in the right direction. We all have pasts, and we all have reactions, and we all have tasks that require our attention, and we all have tender hearts and souls.
And in this country, we have a three-day weekend.
my response to the title: “yes, it is.”

Imagine going to the Delacort Theater last night to watch Meryl Streep in Mother Courage. The sea of umbrellas in the audience when the play was halted for rain delay was impressive and strikingly beautiful. I, too have been planning on making my own greeting cards – have the material and have actually made some – well, a few…

If you get tired of the rain, you can trade with me. Take some of this sunshine. I won’t be the only one who’ll thank you. 🙂

RYN: Self-possession? I’m afraid that’s a clever ruse. But, thank you, just the same. And about that album. I fell in love with his music because he is more poet than musician. People complain that he’s so obscure and mysterious, but I don’t think so. He’s never afraid to make commentary, but he also leaves a lot of room for personal interpretation. 🙂

The weather outside is frightful, so pleased you didn’t add the rest…..”Let it snow let it snow let it snow”.. When we get the snow, I love it here for Christmas but…it’s usually here til the beginning of May.. Oh myyyyyy. LOL. Go out and let the rain (if it’s gentle) trickle through your hair ~C, it feels wonderful, but then I’m also nuts at times too *Winks and love and hugs Bren.

It’s like that here, the weather. Swans have been the property of Kings and Queens for centuries. To protect them from peasants. So only royalty could eat them. Not that the present Queen eats swans. She eats Corgiburgers Hehehe….Dog lovers would kill me for that. Meow! Purring off 😉

Good to read your-swan-lovely-self’s news in spite of the frightful weather 🙂 It’s gorgeous here. But, that means I have to think about mowing. Phew, ok, done. Thinking about it is all I’m gonna do 😉 hehe Hope you enjoy your long weekend. Hugs,

Re swans… when I was in Zurich this summer I was watching the swans on the lake and.. dunno… they seemed hostile and cranky. Seriously. Biting, or threatening to, each other and for a moment there I was thinking that they might bite my leg (as they hung on the edge of the waterfront). Maybe their gracefulness is exaggerated and overrated? That whole Swanlake thing, Tchaikovsky and all, just anillusion? Did I have a point? Not sure 🙂 But enjoy your weekend.
