Here I go
Okay, I am starting this a few minutes early so that when the little clock in the lower right corner of K’s monitor says 9:00 AM I can hit the handy dandy Save button and begin the Blogathon beguine.
Last night’s musical outing was phenomenal. First off was a guy named Jeremy Wallace, whose songs are blues, sung in a voice that sounds like it’s smoked way too many cigarettes and swallowed way too much Southern Comfort. There was a lot of humor in his songs. He is a mere child of 28. I expect to hear and see more of him.
THEN: Mary Gauthier. Oh the wonder of it! Live, her energy and passion are amazing and thundering. Her lyrics are clear and deeply personal, and I sat internally nodding as I identified so much with so many of her songs. She was joined by Thomm Jutz, who was born and raised in Germany but makes his home in Nashville now. He is a masterful guitar player. It was really wonderful to watch how they worked together. Mary Gauthier is on no star trip. At some point during almost every song she stepped back to allow Thomm’s playing a proper showcase. Amazing.
She told us about performing recently at the Grand Ole Opry, and took a moment for us to join in her wonder at “the German and the dyke” being asked to perform at that famously conservative venue. They “split the audience” but as she pointed out, that’s their job. :D:D:D:D:D
After we had taken care of our food and drink tab, we waited in line (no, not online) to meet them. K bought the most recent M. G. CD and I indicated the need for her to sign it. Of course, I told her that I am also a recovering drunk (she has been sober for 16 years, woohoo!) and I write; wonder how many people must come up and tell her that? She was quite nice and we talked; then K talked with her and Mr. Jutz. Then we headed onward.
Okay, I have no planned topics at this point, so we’ll just see what happens next. Let the Blogathon begin!!!
woo-hoo! I have to tackle this cut and paste business from Word! it’s giving me ? instead of ‘ or “. I don’t remember that being a problem. is it possible that I always write directly into the write an entry window? can that be possible? nah.
