N: SWAT Team Member

Lots of you are thinking simply “Huh?”
Some of you are thinking “Wait a minute, a 10-year-old, small for his age, is going to don camouflage and balaclava, a weapon as tall as he is, and go into situations fraught with physical danger? Huh?“

Excuse me while I brag.

National Dance Institute, more familiarly known as NDI, is this fabulous program created by Jacques D’Amboise, who was a soloist with the New York City Ballet during a very esteemed and fine career as a dancer. This program brings dance into many, many New York City public schools for the purpose of introducing children to the joy and creativity of dance. Once a year they do huuuuuge wonderful performances … hundreds of fourth and fifth graders on stage dancing their hearts out. It’s gorgeous!!!

Anyway, NDI has a thingie called the SWAT Team, but only a very very few kids get chosen for it. In this case SWAT stands for Scholarships for the Willing, Achieving, and Talented. The kids chosen for this get to go on most Saturdays for two and a half hours of advanced training in dance, choreography, and performance. And when the big shows are done, they are kind of the leaders for their schoolmates.

So N, the Fearless Dancer (yes indeed, another FD) came home today with the paperwork because he has been chosen! His first rehearsal will be on January 10.
