From yesterday

12 going on woman

I see her off to her day
amazed at the woman waiting to burst through
more than a hint now
she is almost as tall as us
her adults
she rolls her eyes with a smile
in beneficence and patience
because she knows her mother is daft
out of the loop
loves her though
as she slings her pack on her back
bobs her ponytailed way toward her next bus
oblivious to the eyes and heart looking on
in amazement verging on shock
pride and a certain tender sense of parting
from the daughter for the day
from a little girl for life
