Cockeyed optimist

“So they call me a cockeyed optimist
Immature and incurably green”
~ Oscar Hammerstein II, South Pacific (paraphrased)

Last night’s musings.

~~~~~~~~~~
Is it defiance of a kind?
No, that doesn’t fit.
Is it stupidity?
Well, I may not be the sharpest pencil in the box, but no, it isn’t that either.
What is it, then, that sustains this belief in good, that won’t allow a shield to form against the winds of the world?
It would be experience, of redemption and miracles and the enormous good in people.
I confess that I have already begun to listen to Christmas music, and not just in public places where I have no choice.
I have always loved Christmas music. I think it’s because it is part of a holiday that allows spiritual principles to run rampant, unabashed and undisguised.
I love Christmas. I am almost always sad on the day, sometimes in the days before it (just a few) as well; but I love the remembrance of glad tidings, a virgin birth, a savior in infancy.
I know I also love that my country has a special day set aside to give thanks less than a month before Christmas.
My outlook, hopeful and too vulnerable though at times it may seem or even be, has to do with surviving evil and disease, and knowing angels who are human beings.
So be it.
I like the day after Thanksgiving also – that’s when I put up all the Christmas lights outside. Then I get to eat all the leftover turkey, and take a nap in front of the fire, like a cat.
That’s my song too LOL. Better to be cockeyed optimist something good always turns up. Thanksgiving always sounds so lovely from over here. Love this lead into family & friend gathering. Good friends are family too 🙂 Warm Hugs sweet poet
So be it. I am with you on that one fer sure. Rather be a little naive and eternally hopeful, with occasional disappointments, and live happily, for the most part, in the meantime.
Unabashed spirituality Yeeees *smiles* Must say you Americans are very okay, boohoo sniffs I want to celebrate Thanksgiving with you. Suppose I can do it from here can’t I! Must get a stars and stripes flag for the car. Lots of smiles from over here
“What is it, then, that sustains this belief in good, that won’t allow a shield to form against the winds of the world?” Me? I think that is God in us all. “I could say life was just a bowl of jello, and appear more intelligent and smart…” (playing her was a dream come true… in ’92 – when I met HH)
*hugs* i love that you believe in good things, you give me so much hope dear friend. i hope the sadness gets less each year from now until forever.
Well..I prefer the celtic/pagan reasons for celebrating the Yuletide holiday, but I do get caught up in it too…and I love listening to Christmas music. I play it the whole month of December till my patients are qite sick of it;)
I would say you have a gentle understanding of the nature of things. *S*
Cockeyed optimist here too! : ) But you knew that, huh. I love this entry! Bright and happy. Strong on love and hope and celebration : ) Warm Hugs and Big Smiles
Christmas season seems to always bring more eye contact and smiles between strangers shopping in the stores, and a general feeling of excitement and glee. Is that still the child in us?…I love it, too, and am smiling as I write this. Happy Thanksgiving and hugs to you…
