A prayer

Only that pain will lessen
or change
or become such a part of life that it no longer holds any sway

That great healing winds and guardian angels
will kiss away the hurt
that the light shining so brilliantly in your soul
might somehow
some way
medicate and soothe your body
as it tries to bring you down

That love could build a fortress
so no enemy or thief
no untimely or untoward or unfortunate encroachment
should breach the sanctity of the joy
and the strength
of so noble and fine and pure a heart

That as we go through our lives
full and joyous
all unaware of our lack of pain
you are in our days and in our hearts and quickening our spirits
and that you live our lives with us
that we in our joy can bring you
through the tears and the hard lonely times
and for at least some moments
give you respite and release
