Lay Like Broccoli

Today is an all-important day of rest for me. For the last few hours, I’ve done nothing more than watch "Monk" on DVD and drift in and out of sleep. It’s been wonderful, especially since I woke up at 2:45 this morning and spent the rest of the night on the bathroom floor. Then I had to take Alan to work at 5:00. So I’m pretty wiped out.

I did have my first prenatal appointment this morning. It was just an intake type session. Lots of stuff to read and watch and an exam scheduled for Week 11. I also have to make an appointment for a dating ultrasound in a couple weeks and do a glucose tolerance test. The doctor was really nice and supportive. I’m glad because I’ve heard some horror stories about dealing with the Army for pregnancy. She also didn’t treat me like a complete idiot, which is a nice change of pace from most doctors. She also gave me ginger gum, which is really helping with the nausea, which has gotten a lot worse now that I’m in Week 6.

I’m also enjoying being a vegetable because we just finished up a visit with Richard, Kathy, and (for some reason) their friend, Ken, who is a bit of a constant presence at family events. No idea why he is, but I think he must have had a very sad life. We definitely enjoyed the visit. We went to the Cave of the Winds, Red Rock Canyon, and drove to the top of Pikes Peak. We also showed them around Ft. Carson. Rich and Kathy were also very generous and bought us dinner and lunch the entire time they were here. There were some difficulties. Most of them based on the fact that if I get too hungry I start to feel sick to my stomach. And yesterday we didn’t eat lunch until almost dinner time. I thought I was going to die. Still, it was nice to visit with them and it’s hard to argue with their general level of enthusiasm about pretty much everything.

Now I have a bit of recovery time before Lisa and Kurt get here on their way back to Connecticut from Alaska. Hopefully my nausea stays under control enough that we won’t have to tell them while they’re here.

We’re finally caught up on bills from the end of last month and the beginning of this month and we’re actually going to come out ahead. Alan was floored. Then again, the extra $60 he gets in each check as a Specialist covers two store credit card payments, so that’s good. The only bill left is for my car insurance. Plus, we get $200 off our rent next month because Pez put us down as having referred him and Katie. We should also be getting an extra $70 for selling our keyboard. We’re meeting the girl who wants to buy it when I go to pick up Alan from work. So yay!

In the meantime, we’re in the midst of a heat wave, just like most of the country. Luckily, it’s dry here so we’re getting baked rather than steamed. I’m keeping the blinds all drawn anyway and I’m not looking forward to getting back in the car. Oh well, I guess. Tomorrow I’ll be able to stay at home in the dark all day. Yay!

Anyway, just wanted to give a brief update. Life is good. I’m exhausted and now I’m starving, so it’s time for another snack.

I’m glad you have a decent doctor to deal with, and I hope the nausea goes away ASAP. *FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING HUGS*

I’m glad you had a good experience with the doctor. I much prefer the baking heat to the steaming heat. I wish it was dry here.

I got out of the military as an E-4… sadly, I think I made more back then than I do now. RYN: I don’t think it was so much shock as it was… the fact that every other part of me was so sore that it didn’t hurt so much to play with it…
