A Very Merry Un-Birthday
I don’t know why, but I’ve never been very into big shindigs on my birthday. So this year was par for the course (sorry, watching "Happy Gilmore"). My mom called at about 8 this morning, which was a little odd. Generally my parents seem to think I sleep really late, despite all evidence to the contrary, so they wouldn’t call that early normally. Turns out my mom forgot that we’re two hours behind them and thought it was 9. She was really apologetic when I said it was only 8, even though I said repeatedly that I’d been up for a while. ::sigh:: My parents can be kind of dumb sometimes.
It’s been an okay sort of birthday as these things go. Alan tried to make me a cake. He remembered to read the high altitude directions, but forgot to read the other directions. The ones that said to only turn the oven to 325 for dark or non-stick pans. The layers didn’t rise much and they had a crusty sort of layer on the top. Then they didn’t want to come out of the pan. So the cake is a bit of a mess and doesn’t taste all that great to boot. But he tried, which is what counts. And the frosting is sweet enough to mask the slight crunchiness. We ordered pizza and now I’m drinking some yummy Chardonnay, incidentally called Cupcake.
My parents got me a gift card to Michaels, which will come in handy. Alan got me Tamora Pierce’s new book of short stories and Lisa sent me a beautiful embossed purple leather journal. The weather’s been pretty nice, too, which is a great change of pace from my normal birthday weather in CT. It almost always snows on my birthday, but today was sunny and nice. We went to REI and drove around the city a bit and pretty much just chilled out. Tomorrow we’re going to go ice skating at World Arena. It’s a 2-hour session so it’s a bit more expensive, but I had a lot of fun last time.
Alan is leaving for a 12-day FTX on Monday morning, so that’s going to suck. But I’ll have the car all to myself, so I can go to the gym on post, do some classes, and maybe go to Garden of the Gods if the weather warms up a bit more.
Now, for the answers to my lyrics quiz.
1. New Found Glory – All About Her
2. Green day – Letterbomb
3. Custom – Mess
4. Simon & Garfunkel – The Boxer
5. Cat Stevens – 18th ave (Kansas City Nightmare)
6. Rancid – Ghost Band
7. Arlo Guthrie – Ring Around the Rosie Rag
8. All American Rejects – Why Worry
9. The Killers – Mr. Brightside
10. Les Miserables – Do You Hear the People Sing?
11. Carrie Underwood – That’s Where It Is
12. Orgy – Blue Monday
13. Jimmy Buffet – Cowboy in the Jungle
14. Poe – Junkie
15. Linkin Park – No More Sorrow
So, Mandy wins because she actually got two of them. I didn’t realize it was that hard! Maybe next time I’ll choose my songs more carefully.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for right now. Birthday was good. It occurred to me earlier that Alan won’t be here for my 30th birthday. He’ll be in Afghanistan. ::sigh:: That sucks, but I’m just going to try to enjoy the year we have together before he leaves.

Hey. Since I have a whole year, how about I try to save up and come visit you for your 30th birthday, as a way to celebrate both our birthdays? 🙂 That’s definitely my plan! I’m doing it! I’ll find a way! You just watch! 🙂 And damn, I THOUGHT the last one was one I knew, I just couldn’t place it… Lol. I also just hadn’t heard of a lot of the songs. :-p And it IS cute that he at least tried. AndI wish I could have sent you a present on your birthday, but I’ll try to get you one soon, I’m just slack. :-p *FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING LOVING HUGS*

I don’t really do much for my birthday either. We’re probably going to get a sitter, since we haven’t been on a date without the kids, since before Vivian was born, then go to dinner and a movie, come home and eat cake. Anyway glad to hear you had a good birthday, and Alan might not be there for your 30th, but hopefully you’ll have a little munchkin there to celebrate with you. *Hugs* 🙂

Happy belated birthday! I’m sorry your cake was kind of crappy, but it’s nice that he tried 🙂 And the chardonnay sounds yummy.

RYN: I don’t even know how many times I’ve read each of the HP books. Too many times. I think after this read through, I’ll wait a couple years before picking them up again.
