2010 in Review

1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
Moved 2,000 miles away from my friends and family to an entirely new city and way of life.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I’ve just been plugging away at my list of 101 Things in 1001 Days. I’ve had to alter it a bit to keep up with my new locale. It’s not really practical to take Alan to a Red Sox game these days, but we could definitely go to a Rockies game.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No one very close. Mia and Brynn’s moms both had little boys this year, and a Facebook friend had a little girl.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, and I’m quite glad about that.

5. What countries did you visit?
None. Although compared to the hustle and bustle of liberal New England and NYC, Colorado certainly seems like another country sometimes.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A published book and a baby.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 17th, when I left Connecticut and September, when I went off medication

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Setting up house in a new place, going off meds, and not going nuts.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I haven’t maintained my weight loss and regained some of it from laziness.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No, thank goodness.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A really pretty and functional new desk from Target. It’s probably our nicest piece of furniture right now.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

The parents of the kids in my room. They made me feel genuinely appreciated and like I really am missed.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
It’s a toss-up between our vet back in CT who couldn’t be bothered to read my cats’ charts and the ignorant rednecks out here who labor under the misapprehension that their freedom of speech makes what they’re saying valid. Also the entire Westboro Baptist Church. Sick fucks.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Aside from paying rent and bills and buying food, mostly to things that we probably didn’t really need. I’m determined to be better about that next year.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving out here.

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
"The Sidewalks of New York." It’s on a CD I used to play for the kids a lot and since I’ve moved out here it has a tendency to wedge itself into my brain.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder? About the same. Some good things ended and that’s sad, but new good things have come along as well.
ii. Thinner or fatter? About the same. I lost a lot of weight, and gained some of it back.
iii. Richer or poorer? Ugh. Definitely poorer. At this time last year we had two incomes and weren’t spending even half of Alan’s BAH, so the extra went into savings. Now we’re using almost all of it.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Exercising, especially since I’ve been out here. And taking chances. Specifically, taking chances on myself and my own talents.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Being lazy.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
With Alan and our kitties being all familial.

21. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2010?
I can’t think of anything.

22. Did you fall in love in 2010?
No… I definitely had a couple crushes, but I’m still securely in love with Alan.

23. How many one-night stands?
None.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Alan hates it, but I really enjoy watching "Hoarders." It freaks him out and repulses him.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I probably hate fewer people now than I did last year.

26. What was the best book you read?
Impossible question… namely because I can’t possibly remember all of the books I read this year.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I started listening to All-Time Low and found that I really enjoy their music. I wouldn’t call it a great musical discovery though.

28. What did you want and get?
I wanted an apartment with a washer and dryer in the unit and got it. Simple pleasures.

29. What did you want and not get?
Pregnany

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went out for pizza in Waterbury with Lisa, Kurt, and Zach, and then back to their house for cake and ice cream. I turned 27. It’s hard to believe that in less than 2 months I’ll be 28!

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting pregnant.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Comfortable, simple, and stress-free.

34. What kept you sane?
Going out of my way not to put any undue stress on myself.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy most?
Ever and always Johnny Depp. Love him.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I tend not to get too worked up over politics… provided the opposing side can argue their point rationally and accurately. What really gets me up in arms is the ignorance with which people persist in spite of all evidence against them.

37. Who did you miss?
My parents, Alan’s family, my friends, my coworkers, my little people in T4 and their parents.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
It’s a toss-up between Sgt. Schulz and Charlee. Sgt. Schulz is funny and he really seems to recognize Alan’s abilities and to be looking out for him. And Charlee is really sweet and I think she’ll be a good friend to have here.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
Life will happen whether you’re ready for it or not and all you can do is deal with it when it does and there’s no point cursing the heavens for it.

40. If you could sum up 2010 in three words, what would they be?
On an adventure.
