Happy Homemaker

I’m not sure what to write, but I feel like I need to update.

Alan’s unit ball is this Friday. I have do a little tweaking on my dress to make it perfect, because I want to wear my corset underneath. Unfortunately, the back of the dress pulls down and shows the top of the corset. So I bought a pack of snaps and I’m going to sew those on so I can snap the dress to the corset. Clever, right? It’s black tie, so Alan has to get a tuxedo shirt and bow tie for under his Class A’s. He also has to get the formal dress hat, which he actually has an interesting choice on. He can get the typical "police officer" style hat that we all associate with a dress uniform, but the 3-61st is a Cavalry unit, so he has the option of wearing a cavalry hat. And I think after his first deployment he’ll receive a set of spurs. Yee-Haw.

For the time being, I am trying to be a good Army wife. I finished painting the TV stand, but I still need to add the side panels. Now I’ve moved on to the butcher block, which is rather time-consuming because the two bottom shelves are essentially just slats laid about and inch and half apart. It takes awhile to get the sides covered.

I’ve started making to-do lists every day so that I don’t forget things. It’s worked out pretty well so far. And included on every list is some kind of exercise, because I am crazy out of shape. I haven’t gained any weight, but I definitely want to lose more. So it’s time to get back in the saddle… or back on the elliptical. Yesterday I went for a short bike ride and did some yoga. Today after I put a coat of brown on the butcher block I’m going to go to the fitness center for a while. I haven’t been up there yet, so it’ll be a new experience. I’d go for a walk, but it looks like it’s going to start pouring any minute.

The weather here can be a little scary. The thunderstorms are pretty violent, and we’ve even had hail. Apparently it can be quite a problem and will raise your insurance rates. There are lots of chip repair places around. Now I understand the importance of covered parking.

Also, I did some research about the whole meth thing. It turns out that the highest rates of use are all in the western half of the country. And in terms of users age 12 and up, Connecticut has the lowest rate. If you limit the age range from 18-25 it has the second lowest rate after New York. 0.06% of people over the age of 12 have used meth in the last year in Connecticut. It’s 1.07% in Colorado, and it’s 14th. The other top states? Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Nebraska, Oregon, Arkansas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Hawaii. No wonder I never heard about it in Connecticut. Almost every state in the northeast is at less than 0.2%.

Anyway, time to get my day going.

RYN: Thanks for the history lesson on the Jesus letter. 😉 Lol. I mean it for serious though, thank you for letting me know all of that. I’ve never really studied any of that stuff and appreciate it when others who have studied or read about it help me understand certain things. 🙂 I am very interested in the subject of spirituality so maybe I should my ass into reading. 😉
