Snow Squall
I think that maybe when we begin to question the sense in the old adages, God decides it’s time to prove one of them right. I mean, "March comes in like lion and goes out like a lamb" is one that is really only logical. The beginning of the month is still winter. By the end, we’re in spring. Still, "in like a lion" is what we’ve got in the most literal sense. Hmph… I seem to recall 50 degree temps just last week. Oh well. At the very least I’m glad it held off for the weekend.
My mom came down from Vermont on Saturday morning. Of course, I was in the middle of a minor money crisis brought on because either A.) My bank didn’t like the check Alan wrote me last week (even though they did accept it in the first place) or B.) Alan’s bank suddenly thought he didn’t have the funds to cover it. I think B is more likely because he got charged an overdraft fee. At any rate, I went to deposit the check that my dad gave me for my birthday and see with a sudden onslaught of nausea that my balance is almost $-500(!) Ack! So I came home and found the problem, called Alan, and sat down to cool my heels for a while. My mom got there in the meantime and took a breather after her very long drive. Alan brought me the cash and then my mom and I were out for the day. After getting my account back in the positives, we went to Appleby’s for lunch. Then we swung by Best Buy so she could get a copy of Mary Poppins (my parents will only convert all their tapes to DVD as the tapes commit suicide). I drove her down Campbell Ave. in West Haven to show her where I would be working and the house that I’m in love with down by the beach. ::sigh:: I drove her back to Milford on the beach-front road, an excellent place for gawking at the stupendous views of Long Island Sound. We stopped at the Edge and signed me up for a membership… WooHoo!… Then went to Barnes & Noble to spend some of my mom’s hard earned money. ^_^ I got two new Terry Pratchett books and since my mom forgot her gift cards, she’s going to mail them to me so I can spend them (with thoughts of what I can pass on to her). We came back here just as Alan pulled in and with just enough time for him to shower before going up to Waterbury for dinner.
Dinner was extremely good. Lamb, broccoli, wild rice, and homemade bread. So tasty. And the cake was yummy too. Lisa gave me hand-knitted socks (very soft and warm and I’m wearing them right now), and Zach gave me a gift card to Border’s. ^_^ It was after 11 when we got back here to Milford, so my mom wasn’t too keen on driving another 40 minutes down to Norwalk. So we pulled out the futon and the extra blankets and she slept here. I think she’s probably the first person who has. In the morning Alan went to work and my mom and I went to church. I hadn’t been to that church since before Rev. Yordon died and that was a very long time ago. It was nice… especially since I actually got to sit with my mom. She’s always been in the choir and my dad never went to church, so when I was little I always sat with Sam or Lily’s families.
It was a nice weekend. And now everything’s all snowy again. And it hasn’t stopped, although it looks very fine and icy, almost like rain falling. At any rate, I’m not planning on finding out until I have to get the mail later, and if the timing is right I can make Alan get it when he’s home on lunch. It means I’ll have a huge amount of laundry tomorrow when I do get out, but oh well. I’ll cope. And I can make up for today’s quiet by going to JoAnn’s and Borders tomorrow. Yay! Thank goodness for that money my dad sent. Now I can get Lisette a prezzie without having to scramble for it the day before because I haven’t gotten paid yet.
::Sigh:: I see a day of reading and movies coming on. Maybe I’ll be really ambitious and do my nails.
