i’ll remember…
i’d visited my dad’s grave earlier today
this october will be twenty four years since he passed away
two years prior to his passing, he retired from the us navy
he served our country for twenty years
he was stationed at almost all but two years in two places
we only had to move once to richmond virginia when i was 7
then the remainder years back here in san diego.
i have two other uncles who also served and retired from the navy.
one of them was my dad’s younger brother.
like my dad both them were stationed here majority of time in san diego.
they passed on but we remember them too
we buried my dad at glen abbey.
today was like most days when i come here to visit
there’s this breeze throughout this place
it’s so comforting that i find myself staying
and sitting quietly for awhile at times
it’s also nice that he was buried near a palm tree
because the shade now covers and overlooks his grave
i didn’t noticed early on when he passed on…
that this was the perfect spot throughout the cemetery
it’s peaceful here, back then and even now
i forgot to bring a flag for his grave
so i’ll go back this week and put one there
but when i got there, there were
alot of flags today, big and small
alot of visitors, recent and long time love ones
…and most all
alot of remembering going on…
…when memories were etched in their lives
when they were alive…
i didn’t stay for too long
just enough to say hello
and say my peace
i’ll remember…always
That’s beautiful. Memories are little pieces of forever.
