Somebody Send Cake, Quick!
So, here’s the kinda hush-hush project I’ve been working on for the past months:
http://www.theatre-illuminata.com
I didn’t get to paint the cover of Lisa Mantchev’s (our own Dallandra here in OD) book, "Eyes Like Stars",–the very talented Jason Chan created that image. But I have been painting character portraits of the Cast, Fairies and other artwork for the inside pages of Lisa’s website. (Go to the Callboard) Serin, also here on OD, has been the webwizard–(or is that web-ninja?) compiling all the bits and parts into a wonderful site that will be very fun to visit.
About a year ago, Lisa and I started "squeeeing" about artist/writer collaboration stuff, and I was privy to an early draft of her delightful "Eyes Like Stars" novel. Thanks to scanners and instant communication, sketches and thoughts flew back and forth between us in a kind of mind-melding blur, and we have been enthusiastically working together ever since. In fact, the fairies that inhabit the pages of "Eyes Like Stars" seem to have crossed dimentions to make themselves at home in my studio and create huge messes on my drawing table. They like to think they can do the pirate thing and kidnap me and stuff–but the fact is– I have become very good at fairy flicking. Heh.
And so I have been happily absorbed in pencils, paint and ink here in my studio. (Really, could there BE a more perfect project for me? A theatrical fantasy novel just begs for art nouveau inspired costume renderings and character illustrations!) The site that is up right now is only the beginning–there are many plans in the works for interactive play, as the website evolves. I will update you as we add new fun pages! "Eyes Like Stars" is available at Barnes and Noble, Borders and Amazon!
More things have gone on in the space of months since we returned from our Istanbul trip–and I do need to post photos and relate stories and life stuff…….but.
But now I must wander over to the drawing board before those rascal fairies get back from raiding the bag of Ghirardelli chocolate chips they’ve just discovered in the pantry. (And when they see the box of brownies (also Ghirardelli) that I could make for them–IF they were nice, I have a feeling they will soon be manipulative generous and perhaps share some of those chocolate chips with me.)

The cuteness of that ransom notes fills me with GLEE! 😀

Oh, how wonderful for you both!! **sending dark chocolate care package to spring Adagio** RYN: I’ve heard good and bad about the voice programs. I think, though, that I’d probably spend any disposable money (hahaha) on self-publishing.

What a wonderful project you’ve been working on and perfect for you! ryn: t’was my sisters reuntion. I went to one of mine and it was less than desirable. Brought back a lot of insecure feelings, nothing fun or wonderful. Hers, however, was great and I had a blast. But it was good to get home. I’d really been missing all my creatures.

Yummy. Love how life’s art keeps unfolding more of your being and you follow, follow, with your heartstrings. 🙂 Ryn: Am having more difficulty staying alive. Don’t like to tell about it, need all energy for goal. There are many episodes to the film Within Reach, I edited to inform people of this, there is one part that shows processes of using skill levels of each person, and how to use papercrete, so much being tried out now using technology for the greater integral to earth good. Sure liked your note about it. Thank you.

What? Eating MORE chocolate? (And what, is there any other KIND of chocolate besides the devine dark? Piffle on lesser varieties!) And how is it that you don’t weigh 5,000 lbs, you fiendish sylph, you? Speaking of cake, I wonder if I should taunt you with the intimate details of the luscious deep dark chocolate cake I just now consumed? Tis courtesy of Nina’s birthday. (She’s just turned… *gasp* 28!) 🙂 Anyway, sounds like this project certainly suited you, which is delightful – but it’s 2 1/2 months later! Where’s the stories and pics from Istanbul?
