“And home sings me of sweet things,

my life here has its own wings.

To fly over the mountains

though I’m standing still…”

-Karla Bonoff-

I am in my parents adorable little town for the rest of the month. Sisters (all except Sue *sigh*), brother, nieces, nephew–all here and making up my own slice of heaven.

Julia plays Beethoven on the piano, Mom and Pam are chatting in the kitchen, the little cousins are outside playing with walkie-talkies, Dad watches the Twins game from the recliner and all is very familiar and dear here in this small happy world.

Mom always thinks of artistic summer projects for us to do while we are here. This year we are organizing a community paint-by-number. The refurbished 1920’s City Hall is now the town’s community center, and we are painting colorful decorative panels for the six large windows in the vintage auditorium. (I will have to post photos of this when I return to Colorado!)

Julia, Mom and I have collaborated and designed the artwork (a simple arts and crafts pattern–a little early for the architecture, but we’re not going to care because it’s really pretty.) and with the help of an overhead projector, we have drawn the designs on all the panels. After a little decision making about colors, we will be finishing up the sample panels tomorrow. Many in the community are excited about being invited to come in and help paint–and I can’t wait to see how the week unfolds!

Meanwhile, we’ve stayed up way too late, eaten way too much, laughed ourselves hoarse, and are having THE best time together!

Don claims to miss me, but he is having a great time without me as he does projects around the house (and without having my opinions to hinder his progress). It will be interesting to see what unfolds. Kinda scary, really.

I will hit the ground running the moment I return– as I head into the theatre school year (“Seussical!”) and prepare for my holiday craft sales.

This is my lovely calm before the storm, and I am relishing every moment with many of my very favorite people.

Love to you all!

PS: The Saturday before I left, I got to meet Dallandra and Serin! *grins happily–(if not a little smugly)* T’was luverly! And notnotnot enough time.

I enjoy your family’s Summer Gathering from afar… it’s always seemed to me “the stuff” books and movies — certainly memories! — are made of. What a treasure, made all the finer by sharing your talents and your love with your community. Much aloha,

Thanks for sharing a sweet peak at your summer idyll, which evokes memories of my childhood summers in a tiny town… And what an innovative way to relate to the community! I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures of these painted windows (?), and hope you’ll post pix of whatever surprise Don comes up with in your absence! (Oh, you brave, brave woman, you! Hee!) Love to you, too! XXOOXX :-])

There’s just nothing like being together with family. And you all are such creative people, it must be great, and esp. serenaded all along by Julia at the piano. It sounds like a lovely and envious time. Enjoy the rest of your time there! Hugs

We (the family) were introduced to a new and very competitive Adagio. Game savvy, fiery, fierce and victorious. We were shocked and in awe. But…..the old Adagio, did come out at times and we kept asking for the new Adagio to come back. Truthfully I love my big sis no matter which personality pops out. BRO

YOU! The dark raven, a competitive one? Noooooooo, really?! HA, thanks BRO for bringing that aspect of the luscious one to mind. LYMmmmmmmmmmmmm!

What a beautiful and generous soul your brother has! LOVED his note! RYN: I think it’s a work of art and confess to gulping a little, having to part with it, but know that it will bring Mom great joy.
