What a World..what a world…

I’m melting! I’m melting!

This week we finally had a grey and rainy day. This heat wave we’ve had these past couple of weeks has made me far too grumpy (and witchy) to do much of anything.

Auuuuggghh! I’m too hot! I HATE being hot!

(DC laughs at that statement and agrees that I am indeed “hot”. Again he is the master of often saying the right thing at the right time—although I suspect—and he would agree, that he says the “right thing” at times to simply save his own neck.)

I’ve read some of your entries when I can stand to sit in this hot computer room, but have not been in the mood to write much of anything.

Here’s a little simple something that I think I was tagged for a few weeks back.

Five Silly Idiosyncrasies:

1. I don’t like turning left at intersections when I’m driving.

I do fine if there is a light, or if the street is not too busy. But turn left at an intersection onto a busy street? Nope, nope, nope. I will turn right every time and go blocks out of my way to get back onto the street I need to be on. My neck does not turn quickly enough and my car does not shoot out into gaps fast enough and I cannot handle the adrenalin rush when an unseen car zips out of no where. The rare times I DO have to turn left and manage it okay, my boys and their friends say “Dude, Mom! You just made a left hand turn!” and then they clap and whistle clutch their hearts and stuff.

2. I won’t pair and fold socks

And with four guys, we have lotsa socks. There’s just something about sticking my hands into freshly laundered socks and turning them right side out that makes me impatient and gives my hands claustrophobia or something. Don and the boys have had “sock parties” ever since the boys were little. (I do my own socks.) It’s not unusual to see four guys surrounded by piles of socks that they sort and match and claim.

3. I have this thing about bugs….

I do not like to touch magazine pages that have photographs of bugs on them. *shudder* And I do not like to feel that awful crunch of bug bodies when I find them in my house and squish them with a tissue *shudders with creepy goose bumps*

4. I love hardware stores.

I enjoy wandering the isles of a really great retro-style hardware store (that is NOT Home Depot) but is packed floor to ceiling with great stuff. All the nuts and bolts and hinges…the drill bits and tools…the metal flashing and spools of wire gives me thrills. There are just so many possibilities!

5. I do not like to sweat

Which pretty much eliminates exercise. And I usually dread summer. Right now it’s especially miserable. It’s was up to 105 outside and 89 inside for nearly a week–and on top of THAT, it seems to exacerbate my hot flashes and my high blood pressure–which makes me really panic-y and crazy.

I am so not happy about this. SO not happy. I almost got up in the middle of one of our sultry no-sleep nights to go out to my car in my nightgown and turn on the air-conditioning for awhile. At day 7 of misery I looked balefully at DC from behind my steamed up glasses sliding down my nose and he (wisely) said “Um…maybe we should get an air conditioner for the bedroom?”

When I was in the States my room was on the third floor and the AC did not reach that far. Everyone else was fine, but I had to have huge great fans blowing the hot air out of the window and at the footo of my bed blowing over me! I agree totally about not touching pictures – though with me it is just spiders. Ugh.

🙂 Be well,

The one thing I will say about my horrid little house is that the air conditioning works wonderfully. This summer here has been icky, sticky, humid, miserable, but I haven’t minded so much because my house is delightfully cool. I’d send you a window unit for your bedroom if I could.

*Fans you off*… Do you need new batteries for that mini-fan? (You’re still bothered by these flashes? Have you tried hormone therapy?) I’m with you on not liking to sweat, heat, bugs *shudder* (I won’t even TELL you what I saw on here on Free OD), and loving hardware stores! I just recently was delightfully embroiled with hardware mania, when making a game to feature at a summer fair!

I love the idea of a sock party. Sometimes, if I’m mad at The Boy, I fold all my own laundry and leave his in the middle of the bed. Oh yeah. I am evil like that. 😉

DC’s a smart man. Hope he comes through with the a/c for you! I was thrilled…for the first time in over a month, I actually turned the ceiling fans OFF last night! I agree with you on the left hand turns…hate them. (and I have to make a left turn into the library parking lot, across a fairly busy street, with NO traffic light)

Great entry – had me chuckling from start to finish (and I like how you have got those males trained just so!!! LOL). : ) Be well, be cool!!

The next best thing to sitting in your eclectic home (that is SO you) sipping tea and taking in your sweet face and dark eyes is talking to you on the phone. Thankyouforlovingme, and you inspire me to be a better person by your generous, loving heart. You tender, luscious kumquat you! lymmmmmmmmmmm

We have a little in common, I see. I don’t like being hot, I don’t like sweating, socks make me nuts, and I like an old hardware store. I get lost real quick like so I’ve never minded turning left. All I had to do was drive around the block in Houston one time…nobody told me that to drive around a block in Houston required 4 blocks to do so. Take care.

OMG, I thought I was the only weirdo (and I mean that in the nicest way!!) who didn’t like to touch magazine pages with bugs on them. Especially spiders. Nice to know I’m not alone. LOL

I love your quirks! Share the hardware store one with you. Bookstores too. Not so much the heat, which is a good thing considering I live in Texas and it’s been in the 100s for weeks and will continue so through Sept. I *really* don’t like cold though, it constricts me, huddles me into myself and makes me mean. I think I’ll institute sock parties at my house. Seems a very good idea!

oh, I feel your pain with the heat! my friend Dania and I were roadtripping down to D.C. and it was 104 out and we were sooooooo cranky it was unbearable.

…I cannot imagine being without AC in this kind of weather! Is it typical for your area for the house not to have AC? I know it was like that in San Diego…at least when we left. There was no need for it.

just so you can defend your wise decision to not make a left hand turn – pacific bell had my dad and his colleagues reroute all of their driving routes all over the north state to eliminate **all** left hand turns. They found that the percentage of accidents that included a left hand turn was incredibly high, and they saved immense amounts of money and lowered danger just by making all their

drivers avoid all left hand turns. I’ve certainly thought of doing that, myself, considering it worth the extra safety to make a few extra right hand turns. At the very least, I am extra cautious with left hand turns. btw, I dont sweat when I lift weights (unless the weight room is really hot which is rare). And swimming is always good. 🙂 except for that chlorine stink. biking is sweaty.

No I haven’t sent an email. I’m still working it out in my mind. I have so much malice for her that I can’t seem to get away from boiling her in oil. That’s not the way to proceed. I did not mean to leave you hanging we put the house on the market Tuesday, had six showings yesterday, and FOUR offers from those six showings. We were up all night trying to make a decision. We have a contract.LYM!!!
