Defending the Ugly Girl

I baked cookies and brownies last night. The cookies were still out on the counter top when he came in. I swear that he ate eight cookies. I finally put them in a baggy so that he would stop. I was thinking “don’t you think the kids might want some of those?” I did leave three cookies and two brownies out on a plate for him but he sat on the little sofa and fell asleep.

He was out by the bon fire, most of the evening, drinking beer with the neighbor.

This is funny. I took the girls to Fargo for the People to People meeting. Then we went to IHOP ~ it was nothing to brag about nor is there anything to complain about.

We got to talking. I asked the girls what they would like to get their dad for his birthday. I was throwing out ideas and I said cologne. Alexa said “something that smells better than that Axe.” I said you don’t like it? She said it’s so strong and he uses so much that we can smell it in our bedroom when he sprays it. (Their bedroom and our bathroom are at opposite ends of the house.) Nadine piped in with “we know when he is going out.” She, like her father, would not say shit if she had a mouthful of it. Alexa on the other hand ~ if she thinks it she says it!

So we agreed to get him some cologne.

Even though he is not “my man” I still have to smell the way that he smells. I don’t want just any old stinky stuff because I can tell when he has prepared himself to go out hours after he has left the house. I decided on Black by Kenneth Cole. We got him the set that has the cologne, body wash, and deodorant. I think that I like it ~ I like the way that it smells from the bottle. I hope that it mixes well with his body chemicals. With the set we got a free bag ~ it is a big bag. The tag says carry-on but it almost seems too big to be a carry on. I told the girls “now he can pack when he goes on an over-night.”

I said it in a joking way but I want them to know that I am alright with it when he does not come home. If I am okay with it maybe it won’t bother them.

I asked the girls if it bothers them that Dad is seeing other women. They both said no but Alexa added “but this one is so ugly.” Here we go ~ I find myself defending the poor thing. “Looks are not everything, maybe she is really nice.”

Yet talking to K this morning I get the idea that she is not so much. J told K that he saw the ugly gal leaving the bar with a different guy Friday night. Dick was home with Tyler Friday night because both the girls spent the night with a friend. Apparently J called Dick and told him about it. J told K that Dick did not seem to care.

Another tidbit of information from J to K from K to me. H (another girl) sent both Dick and J invitations to her birthday party ~ tonight. Dick threw his in the trash without even opening it.

I am thinking “sending invitations to your own birthday party? What are you 12?”
