The Fourth of July
Saturday night the bartender told me that the bar may not even be open on the Fourth of July. Hey cool beans ~ it is a paid holiday for me but I am scheduled to work because no one else wants to work. Later he said that the bar would only be open through bingo. Okay ~ I can do “through bingo.”
I got to work Monday and the same bartender told me again that the bar was only going to be open through bingo so I sent my opening person home. I sent a gal that was training home. Midway through bingo I held a lottery to let someone else go. It was slow! We finished bingo and there were still four of us on ~ I cut one more person that was training. Now we are three and I have table three covered. I decided not to set up table two and covered it. We are closing no need to set it up.
Everyone is leaving the bar! By 9:30 there were four employees and one customer. The bartender that told me that the bar was closing got off work but they pulled the bottle shop worker to tend the bar. Okay so we aren’t closing? Three girls come in so now the customer/employee ratio is equal! One more guy comes in and he decided to play cards.
He played for an hour, the girls hung out for a while! It is now 10:30 and the girls had left ~ there was one guy at the bar and one guy playing cards. This sucks! The player leaves and the guy at the bar is the only one in the bar at 10:45. Now this really sucks!! At 11:20 the bar owner told me that I could go ahead and shut down. It is in the contract between the bar and the company that I work for that if the bar is open, gaming is open. So he actually did have the say if I could close or not. We were done by 11:30. Ten minute shutdown because I had everything done! All I had to do was the deposits and count the ending cash. Done, gone! But the fireworks display was already over! I am so glad that I did not call the kids to tell them that I would be done early. That really would have made me angry. So that is how my Fourth of July was!
