Friday’s Event ~ Trip Home

Of course this is from last week and I am still trying to get caught up.

Friday we went to see Dad in the hospital. When we got there he had already been discharged. No one knew because we were on the road and Mom had already left for her vacation in MN. (Who vacations in MN?) But we did other things ~ had lunch, went shopping, then had Dairy Queen. I then returned to Crosby while Connie went hunting for a pair of white jeans for a wedding that she planned to attend Saturday. I got back Mom’s and had a nap. I was so doing the head-bob thing while driving.

When I woke up from a nap we went up to the nursing home to see Dad. He was quite loopy.

It was my sister and her youngest son and my children and I were hanging out in Dad’s room at the nursing home. All of the sudden he lets one rip ~ it was a long, loud, cheek fluttering fart. What else can one (or 6) do but start to giggle. Connie said “Dad!” He said, pointing at Alexa, “well she does it all the time. She always gets me first. I wasn’t going to let her get one up on me this time so I did it first” as Alexa stares at me wide-eyed looking for an answer to the craziness. I gave her the “don’t worry about it” signal but she still looked so confused. Then he started mumbling something and all I could get out of it was Rebecca. He called Alexa Rebecca. That really threw her for a loop.

Connie said Dad who is that (pointing at Alexa.) Ah that’s potty mouth! She has always been a potty mouth so I call her potty mouth yep that’s potty mouth. You should hear how she talks.

I thought that Alexa was going to cry. I once again gave her the signal not to worry about it.

So we tried to hold a conversation with him and later asked him who that is ~ pointing at Alexa. “Well, that is Alexa, and that is Nadine, Tyler, Riley, Connie, and that is Lucy” pointing to each of us as he said our names.

It was a weird situation yet I could still find humor in it because I have worked in a nursing home so I know how people can become confused. They can be confused one minute and the next minute they can have a total sense of reality.

Connie went up to see him on Father’s Day and she said that he was fine. She thinks that it is the pain medication that made him so loopy. That very well could be the cause of some of the confusion.
