Icy Roads and Motel Room

What a week it has been! I wish it were already Saturday night/Sunday morning at this time. At least I don’t have to do the banking in the morning. I traded banking days with Cocky because the kids are out of school Friday and because the weather forecast is crappy. I am so glad that I traded! The forecast was not wrong!

I have to go to my latest entry to find out where I left off. This week has been long already. I have already worked four days/nights this week and I have two to go. Next week will be the same ~ I will be working six days/nights. Ugh!

Monday

I stayed in town Monday after I did the banking. I went out for lunch then I sat in the parking lot of the HL and read my book. I even reclined my seat and took a nap in my car until I was awaken by the sound of *sirens. I made it to work on time! Mark that one on the calendar.

Due to warm weather and blowing snow during the day then freezing temperatures by the time I got off work the road were treacherous. I decided that I did not want to drive home. Just the thought of having to drive on those roads made me nauseous. You just have to follow your gut feelings and my guts told me not to even attempt it. So I didn’t! I went to Wal*Mart on a mission to buy underwear because I was not going home before work since I had to open Tuesday. I had street clothes and a clean pair of socks ~ because the sock that I wore matched my “street shirt” so I brought a pair of black socks with me to wear for work. When I got to work I did not feel like changing my sock and I could get by with wearing purple socks because I wore my tennis shoes rather than my loafers. So I needed clean panties. I needed a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, a brush, curling iron, and blow dryer. Just the essentials to get me ready for work. (Not once did I think about the motel having most of what I needed ~ like the blow dryer.) I got it all including breakfast and new jammies!

Then I drove around a little bit trying to decide which motel to try first. I decided on the one right up the road from Wal*Mart but when I got there the parking lot was full so I didn’t even bother. I drove around the lots of three others in a cluster of five motels and finally decided to try Comfort Inn first. I have stayed at one before ~ they are not all that expensive, nor are they fancy. All I needed was a place to sleep and shower. I got a room right away and I got the “stranded” rate.

I went back out to my car to collect all my newly purchased goods then went up to my room. When I opened the door the heat hit me like a ton of bricks. The heater was set on high at the hottest level. If I didn’t know better I would have thought that the place was on fire or I was in hell! I immediately turned the heater off.

I was already sweating bullets. I thought that the room should be cooled down by the time I got out of the shower. I was wrong; it was still so hot in there that I did not even put my jammies on. I sat around in the nude. Eventually I did put my jammies on because I could not stand the heat and I wanted to open the door to let some of it escape. Still not helping! I am burning in hell! This is one place that you can still open a window on the second floor of a motel! I opened the window and had the door open and prayed for the room to cool down. After a while even that was not helping so I turned on the air conditioner. It was running full blast on the coolest setting and it still took almost 45 minutes to cool down. Finally it was tolerable ~ I turned off the air conditioner but I did not turn on the heat. I did not even get under the covers.

Dick called me Tuesday morning ~ a wake up call when I was not ready to wake up because I was up so late trying to cool down the room. But I got up, showered, and ready for the day.

*Just up the road a police car arrived first, then a fire truck, then the ambulance arrived. When you call 911 you get all the emergency vehicles.*

I was going to run one long entry about the week so far but it is almost 3:30 and although I do not have to get up in the morning I am tired now. I better take the chance to sleep before I get a second wind. I should have time to write about the rest of the week while the kids are watching the movie Good Boy. I bribed them to clean the kitchen after they ate. I told them that I have a surprise but they won’t get it if the kitchen is a mess when I get home. They did a really good job! The only thing that they left was the pan of grease that Dick left after making a burger. So they get their surprise. I hope they like it as much as I think that they will.
