I Wanna Dance With Somebody
Time flies…work last week was only semi-productive, there is a lot I need to do this week and next before getting outta town. Weekend was random. Happy hour until the wee hours with colleagues on Thursday, long workday on Friday. After work we headed out to Williamsburg for this completely bizarro black light art show in an otherwise pitch dark room. Definitely a time – the concept was really interesting but the art itself wasn’t my favorite. We did a loop, had a glass of wine, then headed back into Manhattan to see Uncle Leon & The Alibis at Rodeo Bar. Always a good time – highly recommend the new album. And Rodeo Bar – last time I was there was back in 2003 during the August blackout! Tempus fugit baby.
Saturday we lounged around in bed for most of the day, then headed out at night to see Beth Ditto of The Gossip perform at XL. I was super-zonked from the week but was glad I ended up rallying to go out. Our "seats" turned out to be really good, a little vip cocktail area sponsored by Absolut with free drinks and yummy shots served by super-hot gogo boys. And Absolut branded SLAP BRACELETS. Remember slap bracelets? They ended up being banned at my middle school because people would take the covers off and slash people, but how much fun were those when not being used as a weapon? This kept me entertained the entire night.
Then when it was time for Ms. Ditto, she came out and then literally grabbed onto S and whispered in his ear, "I have NO idea what I’m doing here." Ha! I think this photo was taken right after that:
It was a short show but really amazing. She did all her songs and then a ridiculous version of Whitney Houston’s "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." Everyone in the place was going insane and dancing their heads off by that point. Except Michael Stipe, but even he looked pleased. We ended up staying out until 5am – good times. Lazy Sunday then out to watch Mad Men in the evening – overall a good weekend.

OMG, looks like a blast!! I love drag shows. I used to go out in the castro with my bestfriend (pre-baby and hubby days) and always had so much fun at those shows. They really know how to get a crowd going. I loved the slap bracelets too, though they ended up being banned at my school as well.

i saw the gossip two years ago and their show was great, they did all of their songs from their albums and some extras, the whole thing felt really short though and it was only afterwards that I realized they had played everything plus more. 🙂

Looks like awesome fun! My school didn’t allow slap bracelets either. Mind you, they banned just about everything that in any conceivable way could be used as a weapon. I still had a friend get stabbed twice in grade 8, though…kids will be kids.

She is amazing! RYN: 37 yr old wine tastes incredible. Or it did in this case at least. Mike bought it in Spain about 7 years ago (when it was already 30 yrs old, obvs) and it’s been sitting in storage at his Gran’s ever since. Was lovely to finally enjoy it – although the cork was ruined so we ended up having to pour it through a tea strainer!
