Snapshot
The fall is heating up, even while the temperature drops. Just trying to capture a little of October 2012, even as it blows by me:
Thursday night – Civilized wine and cheese NYPL Party at the Andaz 5th Ave, then on to random party for Hyundai afterwards at Chelsea Market complete with wayfarer sunglasses giveaways, strange cocktails and loud hipster band
Friday – Opening night of the New York Film Festival – Ang Lee’s "Life of Pi" in 3D, beautiful, epic movie. Afterparty at the Harvard Club
Saturday – Facial, library visit (found the books I’d left on the shelves, score!) brunch. Saturday night was supposed to be Brian DePalma’s "Passion" at NYFF which looked great but there was some sort of one-time-use security code on the print or whatever and they tested it beforehand and then couldn’t play the movie, how mortifying. Went for drinks at the Hudson Hotel’s lovely garden bar instead, got drink spilled in my (new) shoe by drunk girl (not me)
Sunday – "Frances Ha" and "Caesar Must Die" – "Frances Ha" was basically the same exact movie as "Lola Versus," and I didn’t really love it the first time. "Caesar Must Die" was all right, documentary about a group of inmates at an Italian prison putting on Julius Caesar. We had dinner at Bouchon Bakery in between, which basically sucked. Maybe it was an off-night, but I wouldn’t go again
Monday – Work work work work work work work work Work work work work work work work work Work work work work work work work work
Tuesday – Awesome "Princess Bride" screening for the 25th anniversary. The whole cast was there except for Andre the Giant, Peter Falk, and Fred Savage. RIP Andre and Columbo – not sure what Kevin Arnold’s excuse was. Afterparty was fun, it was already way late so we didn’t stay too long. Gift bag included a Princess Bride book, teeshirt, and dvd which I should probably sell on eBay.
Wednesday – NYFF Gala Tribute to Nicole Kidman and "The Paperboy" screening. Nicole Kidman!!! In ridiculous red L’Wren Scott dress and shoes. She’s so amazing. Usually when actors talk about their craft it’s annoying as hell but she was just well spoken and intelligent. Also the prettiest and tallest in the world. Movie wasn’t great – it was a hot ticket at Cannes when I was there so I thought it would be pretty good, but it was not. They played clips from her career including Moulin Rouge, made me wish they’d have just played Moulin Rouge instead of "The Paperboy." Sadly she was just flew in between filming "Grace of Monaco" and had to leave before the afterparty so we went home too. Lame.
Thursday – Had to fly to Florida for work. Orlando. Went fine but sooo not my type of place. Stayed up working all night Thursday into Friday
Friday – Worked a long day and then an event on Friday evening
Saturday – Worked a shorter day, got on earlier flight than expected, got home around 10pm. Unpacked and didn’t feel like going to sleep so we went to check out the David Blaine Electrified thing on the water. Very well organized and cool looking, I am not so impressed by the electricity part but just standing continuously on a small platform is a huge endurance challenge. He seemed tired but was stretching and waving to some people in the crowd. After that we had a couple of cocktails at Bakehouse, hung out at old fave Rusty Knot until around 2
Sunday – Slept in until 5pm…I needed it! Did work and then went out to late showing of Night Across the Street, totally bizarro
Monday – Work and Ginger & Rosa screening. Movie was okay…Elle Fanning best hair ever in the movie, long and RED
Tuesday – Work and S’s birthday!!! Dinner at Mr. Chow Tribeca, had some champagne and squab lettuce wraps and Mr. Chow noodles to start, then the Drunken Fish and Beijing Chicken. Came nowhere close to finishing. Headed back uptown for a nightcap at L’Amant, first time and love love love love it. Had a Boulevardier with bourbon, campari, and vermouth as my first and a beautiful Negroni as my second. I’m so obsessed with Campari, I love the red color and unique bitter/sweet taste. Soooo good. S’s Sazerac’s were perfect too, new fave spot for sure
To be continued…
What books are you reading?

So many fun things! I’m so very jealous you were at the Princess Bride screening. 🙂

Is it sad that I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Princess Bride?

I read Schooled and liked it. How was that ****, Sloane Crosley’s book of essays? Have you read any Gillian Flynn yet. I can’t recall if you have. (sorry, Lyme.)

I recently read Life of Pi and really enjoyed it. I want to see that film. I’m writing down all these drinks you talk about, I’ve never even tried a Sazerac.

Did you try to have a tall, fair skinned rumble with Nicole?

I was not a big fan of the book, ‘The Life of Pi,’ but I can see that it would offer great opportunity for cinematic opulence. From what I have read of it, I believe I will skip ‘The Paperboy.’ October has been action packed for me. I am hoping for a nice quiet November to get caught up on energy and other stuff.
Warning Comment
Fred Savage was my 13 year old heartthrob. I would have collapsed from disappointment.
