Oh My Stars
I need a weekend to recover from my weekend.
Wednesday
– Worked late, S came to meet me downtown, we ran errands, took a nice long walk, and had dinner at cool looking but underwhelming new tapas restaurant.
Thursday
– 5am wake up call, long day, working dinner until 9pm, then drinks afterwards with my colleagues since they complain that I never go out with them. Which is true, but usually I barely have time to sleep much less a long dinner. And I do like them, so I went this time. Just to the hotel bar, but we didn’t wrap up until after midnight. Which isn’t horrible, but I had to get up early again the next day. I am not a morning person.
Friday
– 6am wake up call (improvement), ran around most of the day like a crazy person, but things went well.
– When we were done I had a funny feeling my flight home was going to be cancelled, so instead of waiting around, I hitched a ride back with some colleagues who were driving back to the city and it was definitely the right call.
Got home around 6:30pm, ate some food, got changed, and headed out to the Fountain Art Fair at the Armory on Lexington Avenue. While we were going in I got a call on my cell phone from our travel department saying my flight had been cancelled and did I need to rebook. Score!
– It was opening night and kind of a zoo, but we walked around with a couple of Pernod punch drinks and got a good gander at everything. There was some random stuff (skateboarders, dancing naked body painted people – what is up with that…I have seen so much body painting lately, is that a thing now?) but overall so much better than the one we went to a few days prior.
– After that we walked crosstown, almost all the way to the river, to meet up with Cat and starshine25 and Ava Andromeda. [Cat] was in town on a layover from Iceland, and the other girls came down from upstate. We hung out for a bit at [Cat]’s friend’s amazing apartment, then cabbed it down to the Stonewall Inn. I hadn’t been before (good month for historic NYC landmarks!) and it was surprisingly fun and cool (I was expecting more of an older vibe, like the Glass Coffin in SF, but Stonewall was packed to the gills with fun, mostly young people and lots of dancing. It was super-loud and crowded though so we walked around a bit taking pictures in the street and snapping some shots of the Washington Square Park Arch. Weirdly cold, I had on my crazy fake fur coat which is super-warm plus a hood but still was pretty chilly!
– Most of the usual places were packed, but we passed by Amélie, a super-cute little place that was pretty empty. We decided to take a chance and popped in and it was so much fun! The decor was adorable and our server was just the nicest guy, from San Francisco by way of Barcelona and ridiculously charming. We drank lots of wine and nibbled on yummy cheeses and meats and before we knew it it was 3am. Whoops! It was a blast though – these ladies are all so smart and funny it is great just to hear them talk.
Saturday
– We had dentist’s appointments at 11am in Tribeca so had to get up a bunch earlier than I usually would on a weekend.
– After that we grabbed coffee and bagels and headed straight to French class. We had to leave class a few minutes early to get to the Armory Art Show for a tour. The Show was huge, so it was good to have the curator take us around and see the highlights before jumping in on our own. We saw so much truly great art, it really restored my faith after a week of mediocre objects and installations. I also saw at least ten genuine birkins in various shades. How rich do you have to be to feel okay buying a $20,000 handbag?
– We toured around until around 7pm, then walked down to the after-party reception at Yotel. We’ve been there a bunch of times before for various events, but this time they had us in the enclosed outside lounge, which was actually really nice. I was starving and ready to drop, so we figured we’d hang out for one drink and then head home.
– But then they started coming around with trays of (delicious) sushi rolls and (fantastic) cocktails, so I figured we’d at least take advantage of free dinner and booze.
– Famous last words. We ended up closing out the after-party, then stopping in at another bar on the way back to the subway. Then we got into a stupid fight on said subway, basically because I am a horrible asshole.
Sunday
– Woke up in bed, but face down, fully clothed, shoes off but still wearing my overcoat and scarf. Great. S was sweet enough to overlook the fact that I’m a terrible human being and wake me up and make me a slice of toast and some emergen-C drink, because I had plans to spend the day with my friend A in Philadelphia. I responded to his sweet kindness by spouting profanity from the moment I woke up until I headed out. What a @#$%@$ ray of sunshine I am.
– Made my 10:15am bus (really 9:15am with the time change, ugh) and then promptly passed out on the bus. A picked me up at the station, and we had brunch in South Street at Bridget Foy’s. A had some breakfast burrito thing (I didn’t try) and I had grilled cheese and tomato soup, then ordered some fries that were way too huge to even try and finish.
– It was really nice out so we walked around, saw lots of people getting crazy for St. Patrick’s Day, and did some shopping. A bought some cufflinks for her boy at Tiffany, some makeup at MAC, and we window-shopped a bunch of places.
– Then we went back to her apartment, hung out a bit, and went to an early dinner at Alfa which was really yummy. I had pita and hummus, edamame, and tater tots. None of which I finished, but A was able to have boxed up and take home, so they didn’t go to waste.
– I felt so gross and stuffed, got home around 10pm and jumped right into the shower. Once I was clean I cuddled up with S and we watched some of the Kelly Cutrone reality show on netflix. She’s so over the top and crazy hopefully it made me seem a little saner in comparision.
Monday
– Other than that, I am just tired. I’d blame daylight savings like everyone else today but I have no one to blame but myself here.
– I am way out of control lately, more so than usual, and need to get back on track.
– I need to stop gorging myself on food and drink, sleep more, and get back ona stable swim and run training schedule. Spinning is addictive but not as beneficial as running and lifting for me.
– Today, I am going to leave right at 5pm, run outdoors for at least 40 minutes, lift weights, shower, eat the rest of the quinoa salad for dinner, and GO TO SLEEP.
Now I need a weekend to recover from your weekend.

Mmm tapas, that place looks awesome (the food actually looked good to), too bad it was so underwhelming. To wake up like that on Sunday means Saturday definitely was great! Haha, I miss times like that. Hope you get some good sleep soon!!

I am starting to feel like the tapas/small plates trend needs to start dying off. It’s tired. Hate, hate drunky fights. Had one of those Saturday nights myself… yucky feeling, waking up the next day and wondering what the heck you were thinking the night before. Can’t blame you for being tired – that’s a REALLY fun weekend. 🙂

Girl!!

Seems awfully cold for body painters but yeah. There’s a lot and fire eaters and trapeze artists used to be so cool. But I see that everywhere. Vee ah so spoiled! 🙂 I often feel like recovering from my weekends. Especially since I work every effin day. My friends can get sloshed cause they can sleep in!

ryn: I only fake-licked it 🙂

A tapas restaurant with LMFAO playing on their wesbite? Oh my.
Warning Comment
I always love hanging out with you. So much!

I thought of you Saturday night. Ryan’s company took all their employees and their spouses to Dave and Buster’s, and one of Ryan’s coworkers’ wives looks so much like you. I never could pinpoint it until Saturday night, she always looked familiar and I couldn’t figure out why. Now I know. You have a twin in NE Ohio. 🙂

I’m going to declare the music on the tapas site to be the most horrendous on the web. I feel like I got aurally raped.

The Birkin confuses me on so many levels – I’m just not careful enough with my things to ever spend that much on a bag, assuming I had $20K in my HANDBAG BUDGET. LOVED meeting you and Mr. Satine. I was exhausted today after that weekend, so I can only imagine that you are after going to Philly, too.
Warning Comment
I’m exhausted too, but for different reasons 🙂 this is where i come to live vicariously. thanks for that!
Warning Comment
Aww he put you face down so you wouldn’t choke on your own vomit! What a keeper 🙂
Warning Comment
I don’t know how you don’t collapse with exhaustion!
Warning Comment
some rest is really crucial for you mind and body, it’s not a waste of time! ignore the to do list for a day and regain your sanity. 🙂
Warning Comment
Ryn: “Now, More Again” is actually the next book I plan to read if I ever get through “Bitch.” LOL
Warning Comment
my life is so boring 🙂
Warning Comment
ryn I’m including her house and car purchases in that estimate. But still!! Yikes.
Warning Comment
sounds like a big weekend, hope you found some stillness and peace this week – sleeping and training and getting grounded ready for loads more fun!
Warning Comment
Bike fitness carries over pretty well to running fortunately. Did I mention that I entered a 10km swimming race for later this year? Eek! CD xxx
Warning Comment
Blaming daylight saving is my favorite excuse for pretty much everything now. Please, join me in my quest. It makes such a lovely target.
Warning Comment
ryn: Wow! I didn’t know. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll def. go there–probably next Fri because I also want to go to the Whitney Biennial.
Warning Comment
Quinoa salad and sleep will fix you right up, I know it. You’re not crazy, you’re human, and it’s okay.
Warning Comment
RYN: yes shame on me – I normally avoid the St P Day gruesomeness as much as possible but my friend HotAsian had 75% of her department including all her friends laid off last week. She demanded a drinking partner and extensive flirting by young men – and who could deny her that! Hope you enjoyed the haircut!

RYN: Occasionally, I think that we share the same brain. Only… I don’t work out as much (hahaha). One of the reasons I got SO FURIOUS when I found out about the clomid thing is not just because of Princess being dishonest. It’s because they truly cannot afford to have twins. Princess has a good job, and from what I understand is very good at saving and planning. However, my brother works at Wal-Mart. What’s to say that Princess will have complications during labor, and need to take an extended amount of time away from work? All of the planning and saving in the world is not going to support twins on my brother’s income. That is one of the MAIN REASONS that he doesn’t want another child. My brother may not be the smartest kid in the world, but occasionally some practicality will emerge that makes me proud of him. Okay, sorry. I’m done. Thank you for your note. 🙂

OH and I started feeling really really guilty and went out to run just under four miles. Haha. Not as far as I would usually go, but it counts!

r: So funny you heard that! Leon has so many tapes of me singing and improvising. I would have been a youtube sensation if only I were born 20 years later.
Warning Comment
R: Hehe… I’m actually surprised that Brad hasn’t yelled at me for practicing against the wall. Though I have to say, when I do touch the wall it’s not with a whole lot of force. I just totally screwed myself typing that out. 😉
