Just Stuff

Life continues, as it does. #2 Daughter has a busy life, with school (grade 12), ballet twice a week, working at Future Shop (they’re now loading shelves, getting ready to open on December 5), AND her b/f, who would control her if he could, but he can’t  and that pleases me.

Son-in-law worked miracles on the mess left behind in my house by Son and his Significant Other. S-i-l is an admirable young man. #1 Daughter and S-i-l and kids moved into my house this Sunday past, while A and I were there getting some things done. My part largely consisted of cleaning, which still needed to be done in places, like my oak newel post and the bannister rail and such. Murphy’s Oil Soap and lemon oil are my friends, and my bannister is looking a lot better. My house is one of those "living" ones, if you know the feeling, and it was very happy to have people in it working on it and taking care of it.

A tore out the upstairs toilet, which hasn’t functioned well in over a decade, since #2 Daughter flushed a toy down it. That didn’t stop someone in Son’s household from using it, and then they had some septic problems, and then the cold water pipe broke in the upstairs bathroom, and the end result was a bowl full of mummified shit. Not nice, and we’re not getting into the wherefore  and why Son didn’t get someone in to fix it, since that was why I gave them free rent for many months–so they’d have the rent money to fix stuff. Not going there. So…A tore out the toilet, tore up the floor of the little platform it was on, fixed the cold water pipe so now the upstairs bathroom has hot AND cold water, cleaned the toilet (outside with a hose and huge courage) and then he and I and S-i-l spent hours getting the toy out of it, and then he put it back in the bathroom. He put new flooring down in the downstairs bathroom, cleaned cobwebs out of the kitchen and pantry, fixed the bathroom doors upstairs so they don’t jam…he was just busy for the four days we were there. He loves my house. And me. This is good. He spent all kinds of his own money on supplies to do what he did, and the other night, when I was at his place, he told me "Merry Christmas" for all that time, money and so on. I was prepared to pay him back, but he’s not having any of that.

It was nice having him in the house, actually. I like the way my house feels with him in it, and who knows what will happen next spring when #2 Daughter is done school? There are all kinds of possibilities opening. And A and S-i-l did some serious bonding. Too funny. We also visited Son and his missus and the kids while we were there. Their explanations made no sense (read HER explanations, because she spoke up fast and quickly to justify the mess they left; I think Son was just embarrassed, but the whole thing is not worth losing my son and grandbaby over).

On the work front, things keep changing with the new boss, who seems to have NO BUSINESS SENSE, and our cautious optimism turned to cautious pessimism and then outright disgust. The receptionist spoke to me the other day when I came in. Her mother is also an RMT and works in Windsor, on the same street that A lives on, in fact, and the place she works at is looking for another RMT. This is where it gets interesting. We looked in the spa computer for the email I sent in August 2008 with my résumé attached, found it, opened it, updated it, printed it and then Receptionist put it in her purse to take to her Mama to give to the clinic boss, which she did yesterday morning. When I got home last night and checked my email, there was one from the clinic boss, time stamped 9:57 a.m. yesterday, expressing a desire to meet with me. I’ve replied that I’m going to be in Windsor Sunday and Monday and to please let me know a good time to get together. Even if I choose to work three days a week or so there, I can stay at A’s and walk to work. I need to talk to my super here to see if I can go on month-to-month instead of the yearly lease, but I know everything is going to fall into place. Life is very interesting right now.

Speaking of work, I have to get ready to go to the spa. I have a busy day ahead of me, and since the boss at the spa has put me on commission instead of salary, the more, the merrier, and the better my pay cheque will be. I’ll keep y’all posted on what comes next.
