PUTTING PET TO SLEEP

I think it’s right to put a pet to sleep if they are suffering and there is no cure.

I also strongly think that the same should be done to humans who are suffering and have no chance to live. There are too many people who suffer a horrible death when a simple needle or medication would ease their suffering. Not only does the patient suffer but the whole family. I think the family, a doctor and maybe a religious person should help in making the decision. Of course if there is a living will it would make the decision much easier. My Rabbi asked if we were prolonging life or death???? We are so advanced medically that we can keep a person alive just with machines. Is that living. I don’t think so.

i have a living will… not to prolong life if it’s terrible. take care,

I agree. Too bad we can’t give humans a peaceful end like we can pets.

I agree with you and that’s what Dr Kevorkian was trying to tell people all along and he got put into prison for it. I think it is an idea whose time has come!

I very much agree.

I agree it is the right of a person to choose whether or not to be kept ‘breathing’ when there is no chance of survival – but it can be a terrible dilemma for loved ones to have to make that decision. Some people simply cannot let go. I remember a movie decades ago called “They shoot horses, don’t they?” and that always comes into my mind when this issue arises. hugs P

I agree.it should be done in a painless and compassionate manner and should be the person’s choice .

I agree. It is hard for me to understand how we can put our beloved pets out of their misery and we are not allowed to do the same for ourself. I believe in the living will.

This was so right on. Thanks for writing this. Love,

I agree!

In Australia a majority of us, I understand, support euthanasia, but our politicians appear too scared to touch it. The vocal minority can be VERY vocal.

“Are we prolonging life or death?” I think that’s a very insightful way to look at it.

I agree!!!!! So far, Oregon is the only state where this can be done legally, far as I know. hugs, Nicky

I agree!

I respectfully disagree here. I believe that if God decides it is time for a person (or pet) to go, then they will do so without the need for medical intervention. A friend of mine used to work at an animal shelter where they would euthanize the sick and she told me that it is definitely not as painless and quick as people are led to believe, especially when so many places allow people not properly trained to do it. As for humans suffering, I would hate, hate, hate to see my loved ones suffering, but in that event I would certainly pray my heart out for an end to the suffering rather than allow a doctor to play God. Have a good day. =o)

I agree

Loved your post- we had to put our pet down recently- and i believe we as humans should be allowed to decide that for ourselves. yes i agree. I want to be able to tell someone to ‘put that needle into my arm’ i as my pet do not want to suffer anymore.
